  1. We all suffer from a lack of public awareness. It would be fine if everyone was a member of the AA but what about other trade proficientcy schemes. I get lots of calls because I am listed on several Neighbourhood Watch recomended tradesmen lists. That is more important than the AA to my customers because they know I can be trusted.
  2. It should be a standard part from any good trailer/towing parts retailers.
  3. Who read the article on SOD in last Saturdays Telegraph? ( I thought bigA was a daily sport man, shows what I know)
  4. yeah but look at all that other garbage you lug about on your belt
  5. cut through the hinge too it seems
  6. is it ok if its done with fracture pruning and coronet cuts?
  7. Time to walk down the avenue with a 372 I think
  8. Went and did a couple of hours on the booked work , bailed out due to high wind and tall (25 metre) thin whippy HorseChestnut thinnings in a garden woodland garden. Climbed 2 and opted out for a day. Done one smashed willow callout now off , when fed and dry to big smashed Oak callout. have fun with the daytime telly boys:wave:
  9. go and buy a mop and bucket , you will make a killing
  10. Its a great achievement trebogan. As with all pictures and video if you can do better then show it!
  11. There are 80 tree work companies in my local yellow pages now. When I started there where about 30. There is not a 250% increase in trees though. The rates are lower as more people chase the work. Competition is not all good, I sub in work with a couple of newer starters who do good work. They have their uses as they are keen to pay for costly kit and top whack mortgages. I cannot and would not prevent new starters, whatever their standard and skill. The crap ones never get anywhere and the good ones roll on producing good work. I'm all for good work.
  12. As far as I understand the matter it shouldn't make a difference now as Lantra are an umbrella organisation that licence/grant NPTC the permission to do the instruction and testing of trainees. They are all part of the same thing. correct me if i'm wrong.
  13. saves on the TPO applications
  14. he's gotta earn a crust i spose strange that he has not said if it is a legal requirement seeing as he is linked to nptc
  15. Start small, and get bigger not big and get smaller. Lots of common sense, hard graft and customer satisfaction required. I started with a series 1 Landrover, a 262xp . I borrowed a ladder , brush and a rake . I climbed what i could with an old rock climbing kit. In my own time I watched other guys climb and made it up as I went along, self lowering and solving all the problems that arise. I worked f'ing hard. I read books and articles on arb and asked questions. I passed my climb/rescue/saw in tree tickets with no pro training just a practiced with an old hand once. I have been open to new techniques from the start absorbing the best into my work when I can. It may be frowned upon now to start this way. Mostly by those who are so up their @rses they don't want just any bloke up a tree cos they want to ponce about rather than graft. I wish you well new starter , health and good luck , but stay oof my patch
  16. I talked to a guy using one locally , the teeth wear funny and they can only be purchased as a set as they are all slightly different. Also he was sweatting like pregnant nun. looked like hard work.
  17. I don't
  18. we get emmerdale, corrie and holly oaks with subtitles
  19. In part 2 (or 3) that is coming out , just wait. (there was 47 minutes of vid to edit for both trees)
  20. Sorry but no commentary by Col today , just the soundtrack supplied by Stihl 200T. [ame= ] [/ame]
  21. my old 084 was like that cos the exhaust kept falling off so I left it loose...
  22. Whats your location ? I was nearly done over last friday night ,woke up and caught them at it.
  23. I'm surprised that so many northern folk ( above the M4) can understand old Col.
  24. From what i can tell these trees where to be retained as part of planning consent which means they are not covered by TPO's but the local planning authority may decline to sign off the works ( building) as complete if they are not present at the final inspection. It may be that TPO's will not be put on the trees at all as they have been damaged during construction , The damage of the trees may then lead to a breach of planning consent. You gotta clarify the issue with the LA.
  25. This is hitting the high numbers on my ipod [ame= ] [/ame]
