  1. Here is my 2 stage cut first put the flat cut in, then cut from the opposite side down at 45 degrees to meet cut then lob da log.
  2. Drive into London? In the interests of the environment I would have opted for The Railway pub, near the railway. ( district line / london overground services) a short walk to Victoria gate.
  3. Rather than listen to the views of the folk here , good and valid they may be, seek out the Forestry Commission technichal reports on chainsaws from forest research , technical development branch . They have lots more than just road tests.
  4. JBWeld is the daddy, I have a 5 year old repair on an 020 still OK ( though I gave the saw away to a student recently)
  5. Robs a nut with that planker. But its his money. do Soafs at cadnam still buy odd butts?
  6. I have a good stock of ready to go and cordwood. I've had quite a few enquiries but few orders. My price is sensible. ( higher end of the price range) When the competitiion are sold out I hope to cash in.
  7. If its like my old Bedford, I'm sure they are a standard lucas part and an early landrover ( S1,2,3.) lamp should fit.
  8. popular butts.... I thought this was a Beyonce thread.
  9. MB Trac is OK but in the woods they bust airlines on the brakes for a passtime. Longleat estate had one with a mounted crane ( 20 years ago). Arb work would be ok but they are all getting long in the tooth now. ( thats rich comming from the owner of a 1970's county)
  10. Get some help to replace the tank, holding it up while tinkering with your nuts is a bit tricky.
  11. Keep listening and you'll keep learning boy.
  12. As a student in the early 1990's i watched a fellow student wind his hand through the fairlead rollers on a radio controlled timber winch. He WAS wearing gloves and a sprag of wire caught the glove and dragged his hand in. It was a bit messy.
  13. Strawberry tree , Arbutus unedo Will fit the bill.
  14. Look to the North. In Scandanavian countries firewood is sold well packaged and dry in large 1 metre bales. Its also a high proportion of softwood. You need to market the positive side of softwoods. They have almost the same calorific value as hardwoods but it is given out more quickly. Is there an opportunity to mix it with peat blocks to regulate the speed of burning? Are there local diversification grants available for rural job creation that you could apply for?
  15. 3 days of dreaded lurgey. I need some respite. [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv5iEK-IEzw]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv5iEK-IEzw[/ame]
  16. I know its unorthodox but... ...try using natural crotches for positioning a lowering rope and hey lads (and ladettes) also wrap the rope round the tree trunk to act as a friction brake.
  17. The top fault is that someone came to work without a MEWP.
  18. Are farwells gonna saw that up too john?
  19. dead hardwood works best for this. also if your wedging hard tree and the wedges keep spitting out the cut then put soil or sand on them the grit makes them stick in the cut.
  20. hopefully every legitimate business represented on this board has the reciepts for their saws. ( i also have most of the manuals too)
  21. ever tried putting a normal step cut in the first log but leave it perched in place then cutting the second disc then pushing out both so they break on the floor. Less sawdust on the lawn and quick for the groundie to move the pieces out the way.
  22. Toughest phone i've had was an erricson. next best is my Nokia 6230i which is 2 years old and still going strong. fancy phones are expensive to repair and replace.
  23. I'm all for this visit , thanks Lee.
  24. Mine is playing silly buggers too at the moment. Check the hydraulic oil level first. The level screw is half way up the tank facing the lower hyd-motor. 1/2 inch spanner size. Check the filter by using a long spanner in the slots on the plastic top of the filter chamber. Pull out the spring and lift out the filter . it should be oil coloured. if its got balck spots or grey metalic sludge then seek help. . Mine is 10 years old and the pump is original and the motors where separately changed after 9 and 10 years.
  25. Certainly some things that live at the top of trees are rarely found at the bottom of the tree , they just specialise at a diferent arboreal altitude.
