  1. Quite right. Anyone who has done business studies will know the process of Oncosts , Overheads and Profit. Not just the first 2. Big businesses cover the costs, pay the wages and have a profit margin.
  2. Big ole buckingham wins the day, now I've got one on the way.
  3. looks like it made proper money though.
  4. Ever tried costing out your day rate if you had to hire the truck, saws, chipper etc. then add your wages plus your holiday pay and your sick and tax and NI. Makes for an intersting exercise.
  5. Douggie? somthing about the way its plucked out the butt.
  6. spotted this , could be good. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/iveco-4x4-tipper-tree-surgery-unimog-forestry-chipper_W0QQitemZ120329301394QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120329301394&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
  7. but policy, aims and objectives do change. The forestry commission is now like a nature version of disney. Fun not work, all manicured for the onslaught of the great unwashed.

  11. I intend to buy such a thing as a porta warp ( beam me down ollie). What one is the best to buy , highest quality, easy to install and wears well. ( not bothered by price or maker).
  12. I've never seen Ivy up a palm tree.
  13. If anyone meets Andre the Hungarian/Cockney when they need a hand, he is worth the money he asks for.
  14. I remember being a greenstick, I was crap at everything and I broke lots of kit. I had major b*ll*kins. Lots of them. One day it clicked , I was good enough to say bye and go my own way. I have had numerous trainees , some where better than others but they all got a major B*ll*kins for good reasons. I even ripped the radio out the van dash cos one preferred music to chainsaws. The latest work experience ND student has not asked for more work after the summer. I set high standards and he just didn't want to try to achieve them. Tree work is your life not a way to look cool at the pub. I may be too old school for these young pretenders, but a hard job needs hard lessons.
  15. £ 70 ish for a cubic metre. Already I'm logging up green wood ready for the january rush. A woman phoned 10 minutes ago and wanted cheaper logs, big, unsplit etc, I tried to put her off. The selling line was "you'll burn any wood if your cold" I told her about a log yard nearby so she's gonna try my mate next.
  16. also try Farm woodland planning farm woodland practice silviculture of broadleaved woodland they are 20 years old now but just in time for first thinnings
  17. Its interesting to read of success from web based adverts. I have relied on bush telegraph and printed ads till now. The phone rarely stops ringing. I do think that i need to use the internet to advertise though to find new leads. Soon I have a job for an internet provider working in my town and I'll see them about getting a website.
  18. Circulatory problems exacerbate the problem. I have no obvious HAVS /VWF problems with 20 years of chainsaw use. Though if I use my long reach hedge trimmer for an hour my fingers tingle like crazy. I now wear ski gloves to keep my hands warm even in summer.
  19. That ivy is doomed with a fungus that size.
  20. AC/DC Back in black. I picked up the new album last weekend , and have also revisited the oldies. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tXaZmY52gHM&feature=related[/ame]
  21. does Mrs Lofthouse know about Mrs Smith?
  22. Being higher only gives you more time to contemplate the fragility of life as you are falling.
  23. Is it an improved version of the Bio stuff they made available about some years ago? I tried it ( bought 50 litres cheap at the APF) and it went rancid in the drum and made everything yukky and stinky.
  24. I'm glad I havent had to use a saw like that for almost 20 years. The lack of anti vibration used to make my fingers jingle.
  25. get out of bed and take a p.....
