  1. Sounds good to me so count me in. I organised one there before and it was a good laugh. We didn't do any climbing, just pub and drinking in the barn. Can someone bring a zigzag? It would be especially good for our apprentice.
  2. The third and most preferred subject. This is highly visible from a main road so good advertising for carver and tree wardens
  3. This is the first and most recently dismantled
  4. Anyone in lancs willing to price up a job? I'm chasing a grant and have been shown some stems by a tree officer. Pm your details please
  5. Failing that what about basic ventilation. Starting a war between hot and cold air. I'm sure the heat lost would be negated by movement of air. That moisture has to go somewhere. I got a screwfix dehumidifier that's great. 150 quid. Running that alone could dry logs in time
  6. Here's an idea. Connect a heat conductive metal shelf directly to the radiator. Then simply sit one or two ecofans on there and let them move the air. They're not cheap but there's plenty of home made versions on the net if you can find the time. I don't know if the rad will be hot enough to start the fan but it's worth considering.
  7. I've got underarmour ones but they ride up annoyingly leaving your midriff exposed. The best one I have is a cheap light football long sleeve shirt I think you can pay over the odds too easily
  8. Sorted! A horrendous drive down the m66 and m60 to find the cat 3 foot up a leylandii! Well it was a bit higher but it could have got down. It was a kitten. The lady took me out for a steak dinner for thanks!
  9. It would take me a couple of hours at least to get there
  10. Sorry just been told its Levenshulme
  11. #is anyone available for a cat rescue right now in the north Manchester area? I'm not available and they can by dodgy!
  12. Re ginkgo. A herbalist I trust says that it is more for brain power than circulation. She said eat and drink a lot of ginger! Failing that she can knock up a remedy
  13. Thanks for all the replies. I'll pass this information on
  14. Didn't know what the idea was as I just didn't have anything else to hand. There is less chance of getting it stuck and less chance of damaging something too. Not used it long to be honest but so far so good.
  15. How often should the springs be replaced, if at all? The machine in question is 7 years old and had daily use. The mechanic who recently worked on it said the springs were quite easy to reinstall and didn't have much resistance. I'm wondering how effective new springs would be in breaking those forks that it would have had no problem breaking when it was new.
  16. The throw bag works well and probably better to get it to come down. I'm a minimalist and like going lightweight. The bike grip is lighter but still works and less chance of getting banjoed in the face when you miss!
  17. Was working in a scruffy area yesterday and picked up a bike handle grip made of soft rubber. Put it over the eye splice on bluetongue and it served very well as a throw weight. Very safe too. I csn see there being some play on words on here but it is a serious thread!
  18. Any chance of a copy of the level 4 list? I'm starting next year and want to get ahead on the reading.
  19. Cheers Chris and everyone else. I think level 4 could be the appropriate course
  20. Thanks mate. When I google that I can only find stuff about chartered accountants! I'll be asking local TO's in due course
  21. I thought I might fast track my research by posting here; into what direction to take towards qualifications that are available for someone wanting to move from climbing arborist towards tree officer for local authority. Perhaps someone has made the same transition/progression and could pass on their recommendation. This plan is in it's infancy so I haven't read much detail on different qualifications and courses but I have followed some threads in the past, relating to online courses etc. My current qualification is BTEC national diploma but I have a degree in an unrelated subject (archaeology). Some relevant short courses would be good to know about too. I'm a bit out of touch with it all and don't know where to start!
  22. Quite simply lead by example. You will get more respect than if you're just poing and shouting. That would mean some climbing but that also shows you like the job and not just the authority.
  23. Could be that with a 3 to 1 multiplier. Cheers
