  1. Soft wood is great fire wood!, needs to be dry and burns a little faster than hard wood. In Scandinavian country's, where its real cold, it petty much all they burn.
  2. Doing a degree is more about showing you ability to study and collate information, than the actual subject studied. For many job you need to be a graduate, but not in a specific subject.
  3. I hear what your saying mate, but what about your wife and kids? I work mainly to give them a good life, not me. I don't see doom and gloom for all, but when I read how some on hear are struggling, I wish things were different.
  4. If your not stump grinding and are using a crane, whats all the top soil for??
  5. The splitter has two leavers, if you pull one the blade comes down to touch the log, but with not enough force to badly hurt you, you need to pull the second leaver to get full force. So you can hold the log in place with one hand, bring down the blade, let go of the log and split.
  6. Also make the cuts with a smaller saw first, then go deeper with the beast, make holding the 088 sooo much easier.
  7. Does the thor have the "leader" system? its great and so safe!!
  8. This is the saddest thing, lads and lasses are putting in all the effort to get their tickets and learn new skills, they are all set to get stuck in, then they find there are no jobs!! Must be gutting!!
  9. Indeed! I love the bit where the commentator says "he's not buggered yet, he's still got some sting in him" BRILLIANT!!!!
  10. There are many new threads being started by people who cannot find work, so start there own firm or have just been laid of or are moving from another industry into tree work. I wish them all well and really feel for the difficulties they face trying to get going in this troubled economic time. I just worry that our industry is growing as the amount of work or at least the amount of money available to carry out the work is shrinking. Our industry, like most linked in some way to house moving and construction, has been through a time of real boom over recent years, but that has well and truly come to an end So what now?? Do you think prices will keep being driven down and down, by more and more completion?? Will only the fit survive leaving a healthier industry?? I'm just interested how others think thing will pan out?
  11. I don't want to be down beat, and wish you luck! But,,,,,,,,, in fact no!! I'm not going to derail your thread, I'm off to start a new one!

  17. I really don't think that will work, if they don't have the work, they don't need the staff. Sad, but true.
  18. Don't start back pedaling now! I know a snub when I get one!!
  19. Hey Stevie, is it just me or have we just been snubbed??
