  1. :thumbdown:Bloody hell! you were milking that!!!
  2. :confused1:Why can you not do both??? Take the work on offer now and if the other job comes off take that.
  3. Why not do any work that is available while your waiting to see what happens.
  4. That makes good sense. All the pic's I see on here are of jobs were I just think WHY ??? As always these are only my opinions, I really do believe people have the right to get the job done in what ever way they feel is best for THEM I really don't like them, I think its partly because I traded though a period where we had tossers in suits trying to tell us we HAD to use them, I REALLY resented that!!
  5. AH!! that was a tricky one:thumbdown: rock and a hard place Would have been worse if you had scratched the BMW.

You do realise that people are going to keep coming up and trying to tuck your label back in your T-shirt
  7. A MEWP takes you to a position that allows you to make a cut, I can do this just as well (IMO) with rope and harness. My crane can lift several tonnes, move it and put it in my tailer, I CAN'T. In simple terms my crane makes me money. If a MEWP can make you money, buy one and improve your income. I was not saying that the people who use MEWP's are lacking in climbing skill, I think they are making a mistake in using one, as I would sooner have the profit. I do feel their is a risk of becoming "de-skilled" by using a MEWP. In 15 years I have not had a single job I could not do with out a MEWP, I did hire one once for a week of reducing a Hawthorn hedge, I parked it up at lunch time on the first day and just climbed it all. If MEWPS are so great (and it would appear much cheaper than some say) they will soon take over and I will be out of work
  8. I was talking about a day. My humble apology for not knowing the cost of MEWP hire, but I don't use them so don't know. People are always saying how expensive they are
  9. I'm not sure where "luck" comes into this situation??? Without wishing to be rude, it seems pretty clear too me that the guard was WAY TOO CLOSE.
  10. I would argue that you could achieve the same speed for the same cost by just get in 2 extra climbers and maybe use a ladder to speed up access. I think road side is one of the LAST places you would want to be using a MEWP.

    I prefer Mike's 066.
  12. Really, really sad, as others have said, it should have been foreseen and avoided. He was inspecting a steeple, probably had no other way to gain access, we on the other hand can simple climb the tree and use rope and harness. When working a tree I know its been there for X number of years, so is well nailed down. You stick a MEWP next next to the tree and it has no history of stability on that site (unlike the tree) The ONLY reason I could ever see for using a MEWP, would be lack of skill on the contractors part and if thats the case then its probably a good call.
  13. I would like to thank Dean and SWB for all the times they have both put a smile on my face
  14. Its easy!! Just don't grow your business, stay small, work more efficiently, get the right kit and up your profit!!! I'm always amazed when I read about people with two or three teams going out and no money in the bank?? I know some people get off on having a yard full of pickups and lots of men, if thats what makes em happy, great!! But its not for me, if they could make me rich then cool I'd do it!! Its REAL easy to be BIG and busy, make a loss.
  15. Thats a great job John!!! I wish all LA's worked to such a high standard!!!
  16. IMO, tree work is VERY different to almost all other rope access work or rock climbing. Our krabs are constantly rubbing against a very tactile surface, which can easily unscrew a screw gate. I used screw gate back when I started and I often found they came unscrewed and I even found things clipped into my krab that I had not put there. The other issue I had with them, was not only could a branch unscrew a krab, it could also over tighten them, it's a real pain having to get some pliers sent up the tree. I love my three ways!!!
  17. Bloody hell that sucks Hope you get something sorted tomorrow.
  18. cos there cheap alloy and not steel, heard of a few doing this and the fins aint cheap either. You really don't like TW, do you mate Did your wife run off with one of their sales men or something??
