  1. Sorry your still having bother mate:thumbdown: Your efforts and expense are very much appreciated
  2. That is such a simple way of roping a tree, but if no one told you about it, I don't think many of us would ever think of it.
  3. Do you do Unimogs??????? And if so what do you charge?????????
  4. Thats real clever!! I have always fancied riding the piece, but the "large crane" jobs I did were for fountains and I was told "NO!!!"
  5. They are ALL on tracks with their own crane.
  6. Only 12 years mate!! You must be younger than I thought, next August we'll be at 20!!!

  8. What about Denise Lambert?? (he has 2) And I think Chris Ball has or had one??
  9. This site is great, we get to have a laugh and make new contacts, both for business and leisure. But often its the little tips you pick up that can really make a difference. I would like to thank Marc, he mentioned on a thread about helmets, that the vertex chin strap and head harness assemble can be removed and put in the washer. Mine was getting real stinky, I had tried wiping it but it was no better. After reading Marc's tip I took mine off the hat, my lass washed it and today I enjoyed a STINK free day for the first time in months. THANK YOU Marc!!! I would also like to thank Big Ammer, he mentioned on a thread about chain sharpening, that you should profile your rakers, not just file them flat. I have been sharpening chains for years and never done this. I tried it and I think it makes a real difference. THANK YOU Big Ammer!!!! Please feel free to use this thread to thank the people who's tips have helped you
  10. Great job!! I bet the customer was delighted!!

I would say it saved a day, although a much shorter crane would have still save a lot of time. The customer wanted most the timber, so it would have been fine to just cheese down most of it. We only took away the bottom three pieces, they would have taken a fair bit of time to ring up .

Not offended in the least you could put a cut in the opposite side before making the main cut, which works well, or on BIG pieces you can cut 3/4 of the way through then finish with a sloping cut from above, this stops the piece twisting or sliding your way. (top tip for Mike Hill) I would not recommend big step cuts as the force required to "break" it free is often great and can cause shock loading. As I have the crane control with me I find it easiest to just cut clean through. If the saw gets nipped I can slew the crane to free it. Another method I use is to cut part way through, then draw back the saw, (so only cutting 2/3 of the way through) then bore right through, finish that side then back the saw up finishing the holding wood. Much as you would when cross cutting a large log that you don't want to split.

Its a Palfinger 10501D, it'll lift near 3 tonnes close in and half a tonne @ 14M. 66 mate, the finest saw available, in my view
  21. Thats very good Stevie!!! Could you fix it with a solid link to the hiab, that only allowed it swing in line with the crane??
