  1. LOL!!!!!!!! that sounds about right for Frank!!!!!!!
  2. The AA (automobile association) are now doing an approved trades man scheme for plumbers and the like. If they start offering it for tree surgeons I my find I'm an AAAC sooner than I had hoped!!
  3. Xman, you mush be a very difficult man to be around, you seem feel the need to be doing something exciting the whole time. I've climbed and felled 1000's of trees over the years, most days I feel no excitement at all, as I have done it all so many times before. Stevie is my friend so I am interested in his work and appreciate him taking the time to post. I enjoyed all the vid's Lots of the guys on here are doing mostly domestic work and dismantle all the trees they remove as there is no room to straight fell. I'm sorry if you find our work so boring, if I videoed some of my days that really would bore you.
  4. AAAC = AA Approved Contractor. My "cutter" post was just a suggestion
  5. In my local area the TO is great, meets me on site etc. The HC was in another area who a bit of PITA.
  6. What as apposed to all us numb nuts???????? Its a forum can ct not just post his pearls of wisdom in the thread???
  7. They are huge mate!! One of the bottom roller bearing on my schiesling collapsed, causing the link between the motor and rolling to break, costing me time and money.
  8. You do not need permission to remove dead wood.
  9. I like to do a bit of the easy stuff, just to get a feel for the wood, how well it will take a step cut, etc. Then do the tricky bit then finish with the rest of the easy:thumbup:
  10. I think you misunderstood my post Paul. I am doing the RA workshop and do carry out RA. The aim of the work shop it too work toward AAAC and I was discussing this with the guy who offered me a place on the course and we were both saying how much better the AAAC scheme would be if more got on board.
  11. No but a big lump could fall off!!! I had a HC very similar to these but bigger, I told the house holder to email the TO giving 5 days notice. He sent her one back saying the tree was not to be touched!!! A week later a large limb fell off narrowly missing the clients car, the TO then sent her a letter saying she had 7 days to get if felled!!!
  12. Next time mate, just cut a proper big gob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I my area there is only 1 AAAC, this is of no use to any clients really as they need more than one quote. If all the decent firms became AAAC, even if at ground floor level, it would create a real gap between the pros and the cowboys, and would give the clients a good starting point for getting quotes. I've put my name down for a one day AA risk assessment work shop and even the guy organising the course said the lack of other AAAC's would make my becoming AAAC a bit of a waste of time.
  14. My insurance states I must put out any fires one hour before we leave site. I have left fires burning when I've left site, but only when they are quite low and on sites that I feel are OK, but I know I'm taking a risk.
  15. :congrats: Lets stick to showing our own work
  16. You would have no insurance cover if it was unmanned.
  17. I agree, we need this to be inclusive, lets get away from any them and us if we can
  18. If you give them a 5 day DDD notification, with these pic's they will surely send some one out to have a look??
  19. I would take pics and fell under DDD, but speak to the TO and make sure he sees them before you fell and agrees with you.
  20. Good call Andy!!! Its funny I was thinking the very same thing today, it could be a sort of star system, like hotels have. The way I see things is the whole industry needs to start traveling in the same direction. If we think of the AA as a train at the moment there are only first class tickets available, but we could have business class and standard tickets available too, then at least more can get on board and start traveling in the same direction. If I was a 1star AAAC and a client said they could give me more work if a became 2star I would have a real incentive to make the move.
  21. You could PM David Riding, hes not far from you and is often looking for people.
  22. Yes we are very limited for space, I believe that when Bartlet first bought Southern tree services, then sent over two huge cherry pickers (bucket trucks). They had to send them back as the were too big for the streets of London. Most of our roads were built back in the days of horse drawn transport.
