  1. Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what I'm talking about
  2. Happy new year too you all!!, lets hope its a good one!!
  3. How many contracts do you have Stevie??? I have none and have not had one in 15 years of trading. Its just not how it works IME. I shake hands and crack on. Why would a client want to tie them selves down?? OK councils, etc have a service to provide and need to have a contractor in place, but not many others do.
  4. They are definitely Klein's. Good spikes, I used them for years, £95 is a fair price IMO.
  5. How are they free, if you paid £6.75???????????
  6. Really I trust you have a "carriers license":001_rolleyes:
  7. Yes and I believe he politely said "No" , which was fine, IMO
  8. TBH, I don't think the "right sort of person" would ask. The ones that do would be well known as "takers" and decent folk won't take any notice of that kind of persons recommendation or slagging off, IMO. IME being polite and professional is all thats required, I've covered plenty of cars with sawdust in my time (always blow off as much as I can) and have never been asked to wash one. I've never come to blows with any one either, I sacked a guy on the spot once (he had to catch the bus home) because he got into a row with an OAP out side a library we were working at. I sacked him instantly, went into the library and apologized to the old boy and the staff and told them he had been sacked. I then went back out and finished the job on my own. I once had a farmer say he was going for his gun to shoot me out the tree, I politely told him if he came back with his gun I would call the police, I then carried on with dismantling the tree. Three land agents then arrived from the estate, they were claiming the trees were theirs, however they had told the council (in writing) they were not theirs when some dead and dangerous trees had needed removing. A resident had asked me if they could pay for some more removing at their own cost, the council agreed so we did the work. I politely told the land agents they could not have it both ways and if needs be I would see them in court, we carried on and finished the job. If you are polite, curious and in the right there is never any need for unpleasantness.
  9. You talking retail or wholesale? I sell mine wholesale by the arctic load. I can give you plenty of reasons not to retail it.
  10. So people who turn up for a flight thats booked and payed for are stupid because of 5" of snow, but to park next to a fallen tree is OK and they should be compensated??? Plus I thought you did not want customers who were looking to take advantage .
  11. I think round ones burn best!!! You need a splitter with a heavy duty cookie cutter on it!!
  12. :confused1:Where are you????????????????:confused1:
  13. If you give a day rate, they have, surely
  14. If the starter is not engaging sometimes change it quick!!! Or you could end up knackering the flywheel, as when the starter does not engage properly it can damage the teeth. Unfortunately with 6 cylinder engines the flywheel stops in only a few different places each time, so those parts of the flywheel can soon be damaged.
  15. I'm intending to work as many spring, summer and autumn days as I can, regardless of the weather (within reason) so I can take more time off in the winter. I also intend to spend more of my weekends and evenings sorting out my yard, garden and some DIY.
  16. Just because its TPO'd does not mean it cannot be maintained, I'm sure you could draw up a suitable management scheme, to remove some of the suppressed, deceased, poor form trees, etc, with suitable replacement planting. You could then end up with some fire wood and the woodland would have a more sustainable future, you may even be able to get some grant funding. The FC would be my first port of call, as a felling license over rides a TPO, I believe.
  17. These shots really are fantastic David!!! My wife is most impressed, she asked if you enter any of you pic's in any competitions?? she thinks you should.
  18. That Willow looked like most of the Willows I've felled. It was hollow and rotten, thats what they do, they naturally fall over, re root and grow once more. It wasn't safe to just leave it, you could fence it, but then you have to maintain the fence and what happens when people climb over the fence?, plus when it does fall and re root are you just going to extend the fence?? The problem we have is lack of planting, if there were lots of new trees coming up the loss of the old ones would not be such an issue, is there rarity thats the problem.
  19. Hehe, no mate, I did the round with the wife It's a truly awfully job,IMO
  20. I have been doing tree work for around 17 years, ruining my own business for around 15 years. While I agree that its a rewarding job, one of the things I like about it most is the fact that its given me a decent standard of life. We live on the money my business makes. My wife does work part time for my business doing paperwork etc, but she mainly looks after our home and four children. I'd hate for her to have to go get a job to make end meet. I often read on hear how people are happy to work for very little, because they love the work. I find this very depressing. Yes its great work, but its bloody hard work!!! IMO and those of us that love it are hard workers and deserve a decent wage!! So let not sell ourselves short!!
  21. Trainee upholsterer. Shop keeper/bicycle mechanic Factory worker. Foundry worker. Window cleaner. Farm labourer Milk man. Don't miss any of them.
  22. The irony is that Stevie, who you have just said is "spot on", does all the things you mention!!!!!!!!!!!
