  1. Where there life theres hope. So often its all over on site, at least this guy is in the best place and will hopefully make a full recovery. My heart goes out to all concerned.
  2. There is a scale (I forget what its called) thats used for valuing trees, its used for working out TPO fines.
  3. Thats "Sweet Chestnut".
  4. Indeed!!!!!!!!! It only takes a bigger nob to come along and the first nob does not look quite so bad
  5. I can see both points of view, personally I like CC, my local TO uses it a lot, but TBH I did not even know it was a BS term. I know exactly what he means and he knows I know. It sort of gives me scope to do whats needed. I'm not sure none arbs GAF about whats in the BS, in fact I'm not sure that many arbs are, in fact I think "BS" pretty much sums it all up for me, but then I'm just a simple climber/cutter.
  6. They may not be a foolish as you think, they may have enough wool on their backs (money in the bank from the good times) to be able to run at a loss untill they have seen off much of the completion and can then put their prices back up. This is what some of the very big firms do.
  7. Its funny because its true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. We had boom time for many years, people moving house and getting work done, sites being cleared for new building and people just feeling fairly well off, so there was loads of work, because of this lots of people set up. Also far more people seem to have decided they want into the industry too, year ago it was a much smaller industry that few knew much about. The amount of work available as shrunk just as the number in the industry has reached its highest ever, with others trying to join. Over the next few years I think the industry will have to consolidate, may will leave as wages and profits are bound to fall and then we will hopefully end up with an industry of a sustainable size.
  9. Looks great!!!!!!!! And my customer was delighted!!!!!!!!!!!

    sharpening

Clearly you have never tried to hand sharpen an over ground chain, or even a tooth that has hit steel and been heated.

    sharpening

:001_rolleyes:You sure???????? A badly damaged 25" chain on an 066 can be done by hand in under 5 minuets (I know because I timed myself) It would take as long as that to take the chain off and refit. I have never met a professional cutter who thinks grinding is quicker or even better.
  12. If your saying mobile number only, I'm not sure thats a good idea as people may think you live in a caravan.
  13. Too many cutters, not enough wood.
  14. Stump grinding has got to be the easiest work we ever price up!!! I often do it over the phone, just ask about the access, and ask them to measure the stump. How can you possible not have the required information??????????????? I don't think its the customer who is clueless:001_rolleyes:
  15. :confused1:Surely working out the price is your job??????????????????
  16. Climbing ropes have a breaking strain of over 3 tonnes, (I've used old ones to pull trucks out of fields) so I don't strength is much of am issue. Other wise rope guides would be no good. What you are saying is important for rigging.
  17. It can't have been that great, I fell asleep.
  18. I don't think this can be true, as the alloy rings on cambium savers are much smaller.
  19. Not sure many residents would appreciate that one
  20. I think security would be the main problem, they would need you to have your wood secure inside a yard or building.
