If you had a strip of steel a little thinner than a drive link (to allow for the spring back) and put that in the grove before squeezing, I think it would be pretty accurate.

Well if you look at where the crack is and think about the forces that will be put through that area (because of the "dogs leg" in the stem) when the winds are high, I reckon it could be predicted. Which is why I though Tony may have got it.

The tree had the right side of the crown removed long, long ago. It had been heavily crown lifted more recently. Come on Tony I expected you to get this one.
