  1. Is the tree TPO'd or in a conservation area??. Can I see it from my house, if I can see it from my house sub in a better man.
  2. This really is not helpful and untrue. The timbers you list are not the easiest to dry and keep dry. If they are dried properly and stored in a way that keeps them dry they burn perfectly well, in fact dry Alder is extremely good fuel, IME. We as an industry really need to be correcting this misinformation that goes back to the days before people correctly seasoned and stored their timber.
  3. If the branch is not in the VZ why would it need pulling away from the wires??? I'm not having a go, but its not a good idea to give such advice to people without the require knowledge to carry it out safely. "A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing"
  4. I have tried the Harkie and really liked it, very comfortable, very well made and hard warring.
  5. Sounds like a good way to kill the guy pulling the rope
  6. Because its still stood up even after all that wind, if it was that bad it would have been on the floor already
  7. Or just cut the splice off and tie a not after passing the rope through the pulley.
  8. I still haven't. I would have climbed that. Thats why I said it looks fine.
  9. A good splice is not as thick as a folded rope, I think they take some of the core out.
  10. Give over, it looked fine to me
  11. :confused1:Do you always cut your wood into pencil sizes pieces?????? Must be very time consuming.
  12. Why don't you want to use a pub bottle??? Thats what I use, its cheap and easy.
  13. Tony I'm sorry if you think I'm being awkward, it really was not my intent. The point I was trying to make (but clearly failed) was that we always look at the negative affect man is having on the planet, but I heard a very compelling argument that man has been warming the planet for around 10K years, it started with the methane realised form the first paddy fields and the C02 for the clearance burning by the very first farmers. This warming has prevented an ice age that would no doubt of wiped out many species. So while I agree that we are responsible for tremendous harm and that a little effort would reduce the harm we do, there is a chance that mans overall impact on the planet may not be all bad.
  14. You are saying an ice age would not affect biodiversity??????
  15. And you don't think an ice age would have affected bio diversity
  16. There is an argument that mans warming of the earth has prevented an ice age. Who knows what would have been wiped out by another ice age.
  17. Its less forgiving if not sharpened spot on, imo.
