  1. If you want to do forwarding then you need to go to either Sparsholt in Hampshire or Baroney College in The Boarders. Sparsholt will do you agri base the Barny have a few purpose built. Best way into forwarding is working as a cutter and try and get into the forwarder once in a while. As for harvester you either need lots of money for a pointless 1 week course. Be very lucky and get in with someone with a machine. Or go overseas.
  2. When i first saw it i thought a bottlejack in the back of the cut is a much easier way of lifting over the tree. Then i saw about lifting up the felled stem for cross cutting. That is the greatest idea ever!
  3. What about a Bandit 90?
  4. Sorry that is rather funny. Maybe it's time for a holiday? I did have a similar moment once with **** where is the tipping trailer? Turns out like you i had loaded it and just forgot to hitch it up.
  5. Poor. You can get the multiple packs from HSE for about 6 quid. Or if you just need the one they're free.
  6. AT Osbornes are the UK fransgard agents. Spoke to them two weeks ago for spares and technical support for the Fransgard. I think people starting up doing small scale forestry for firewood has pushed up s/h equipment prices.
  7. I got given a kauri tree from a NZ lady i worked for once. I really liked it till our cold Winter finished the thing off.
  8. They look snug. It seems to be a thing with all STIHL trousers at the moment they have massive waists but the legs are tiny.
  9. I had a 5m crane and it was about the shortest crane you would want for doing short wooding. When i started we had to cut for a short reach forwarder dragging 8' to all the rides just wasn't fun. The truth is that the crane will never be long enough. 5m was always just too short as was 6m then 7m was ok. once you have 11m reach the thing you want is either just a bit far away or too heavy. If you do get a 3.8m cran you just have to plan your work around its reach to make the most of it.
  10. 4.8 on 3pl would be ok. I guess if you get the 3pl crane it gives you a lot of flexibility. If you can see a use for it for other jobs then it might be the way forward. The Farma 3pl cranes can be mounted onto one of their timber trailers and dismounted too. If you foresee a lot of forwarding type work then a 6/8 tonne s/h timber trailer would be around new 3pl crane money.
  11. What sort of crane lengths we talking. Long cranes even with stabilisers are still quite tippy on small tractors. Are you taking wood out? then crane trailers are the best.
  12. It's a choker slider from a winch. You have 4 or 5 of these on your winch cable and you set the choker chains on the sliders. Guess someone broke a winch cable in the past.
  13. I know JAKE do wheel weights and some of their frames fit on Zetor tractors. JAKE Start ENG - JAKE
  14. yep just waiting on a price for new rod end and seal kit vs whole new ram.
  15. As said the ride on water is a little rough. What about front wheel weights? you get the weight you want keeping the nose of the tractor for your tool box and makes tire repair and maintenance much simpler.
  16. Funny you should say that. The extension nearly fell out the Botex crane today.
  17. Took the quick coupling off and fitted them directly to the rams. When i tried the good one it worked. When i tried the bad one well it shot the rod across the yard along with with a few liters of valtra trans. Rod end had gone stripped the threads good and proper.
  18. Hmm i wonder where that is in Herts. There a quite a few around here.
  19. I have the ISA cert arb book with the CDs. The CD is basically a narration of the book but the study guide has a bit more info in it and all the diagrams. Its good because you can have the CDs in the car/van and listen to them each day. Which is what i do. They have all the questions on the CDs too so you can answer along in the truck. Downside is that the guy narrating has a very strong american accent and it does get a little annoying. I got one of the interactive CDs on climbing stuff too free once. That was very good.
  20. The D22 Navaras upto 55 plate i think all had issues with the conrod going at around 55k miles. If you can find one thats had an engine rebuild then they're fantastic trucks i loved mine.
  21. Have you thought about putting the 5k down as a deposit on a new 150/190 and getting the rest on finance. Means you get a brand new machine so you know it's history. If you've got the work to justify it might be the right move. Twice your budget but global recycling have a Bandit 90. You'll retire before you wear it out.
  22. Sorry what is RADS?
  23. I was thinking installing something like a CE lanyard in the hauling mode from the ground.
  24. Hi Is it possible install a mechanical advantage climbing system from the ground? Or set up a standard system using a hitch climber or some other gismo to give a mechanical advantage.
  25. It did manage to close. Think i'm going to plumb it up feed return on each ram see what happens then. Might drain off the one that doesn't work. If it rattles and lifts easly its the rod if it dont it the seals.
