  1. Its alot of machine too Dean. Mine is 10 years old,I have done the Bearings twice and am welding in new gussets onto the flywheel fans. Not bad for 2000 Hours.
  2. Did your 500HP U900 do this Matthew?
  3. Because you live in Tulse Hill and I did too once upon a time... I will offer this advice. With enough ambition you will eventually achieve your goals, however you have left it too late in life to get all you want out of this industry.Forget the House in the Woods, the merchantable arrisings and you being valued in a company with basic tickets and no experience. Sorry to Urinate on your Chips.
  4. Is it a "Humbolt" notch with an over cut on the top? What is the advantage of the over cut?
  5. I did some in late 99 on the Scottish Borders, got blagged by the Boss over the phone and went up there expecting alot. The reality was about £40 a day, minus Fuel, spares,PPE etc. Complete joke.
  6. Some pictures of it doing what it was designed to do.
  7. I have a S2 with a 3B Landcrusier engine and gear box,Rover 90 diffs etc.Goes very well.
  8. Drain the fuel and oil, leave it to sit for a day to get the fumes out. Job is a good one.
  9. If you are whacking off great limbs, what difference does a few dozen Spike marks make in the Stem? I think the original poster showed the difference between "real" Treework and the perception of Treework that seems to abound on this forum. We provide a service and that service caters to the clients demands,we should offer advice and alternatives however we also have financial commitments and family's to feed. I applaud the poster with his illustration of the real face of Arboriculture, not to mention the quality of the clean up.
  10. That is entirely one of the most skillful and gutsy jobs I have seen on here in a long while.I congratulate you and your crew who saw that one go well.
  11. Is the Kennedy family gun shy? Seriously the best boots for Spikes I have used, the "highliners" in 10" hight are the mutts nuts.Viberg in Canada make a similar boot.
  12. Two very conflicting opinions there, how long have you had yours Czlowiek Drzewo and what Boots preceeded them? I am wearing a pair of Meindal Hiking Books at the moment, the weather is too foul here to wear my Wescos.I'l be posting off the Wescos before the Xmas mail rush.
  13. That does look the business Andy. How much to do that to my Chev?
  14. Cheers Steve. I will have a look at some in the flesh when I can.
  15. *Bump* I am soon going to send my Wesco's back to the states for a rebuild and I want to narrow down my choice in Boots.
  16. How are they holding up nearly 6 months down the line?
  17. Jump on the Ferry from New Castle to Bergen when it restarts next year, spend a weekend in Sunny Bergen and return with 205L of Aspen for £300.
  18. True. Speed lacing like alot of Boots have,is a bit of a "love/hate" design. It seems to work well on some Boots, not so great on others. Tubular or circular eyes with enough length in the laces is probably a better design,as we tend to put the Boots on only once a day. I think the best idea is the hooked eyelets that the North American Custom Boots have, you need special Laces however they never seem to get unhooked.
  19. I would like to hear more about these Boots. I am looking for a pair of Boots for the winter,I like the way the Rubber extends from the Sole to the upper on these boots.Does it stay stuck to the upper for the life of the Boot? It rains alot here, waterproof Boots are important.
  20. Its "cos savin time ain´t a crime". A winch is cheating,no "stunt fell" can be made with a winch.Winches indicate planning, calculation and control futher than the fell itself. "Stunt fell" (The felling of a Tree in one whole peice, unasisted by mechanical advantage further than the use of Wedge(s) in a situation where dismantling by climbing the Tree would have been judged more prudent or rational). That is a "Stunt Fell". End of.
  21. I own two and have owned another untill it was stolen. The A340 is a heavy well built machine, with tremendous infeed power and chip velocity.Very easy to maintain due to the way the Engine swings away from the rest of the cutting unit. The down side of the machine,is that small branches can catch at the end of the top feed roller and hinder feeding untill you reverse the rollers to spit it out. I have a 528T Tracked machine, made in 2002 with 2000Hours on it.Another well build solid reliable machine.Easy to maintain, cheap to fix, what more could you want?
