  1. its the just the tail fed back into the bowline section. if you use a pantin and grab from above it you dont need to touch it to ascend- a pulley works better but this is just another option. haha yeah i end up splicing most rope marty
  2. yeah the quick release sailing shackles are good idea, nice thinking mate.
  3. an easy way of making the helical self tend without a pulley, good for either a side lanyard or main climbing hitch if you haven't got a pulley. without a splice you could tie it closer to the carabiner to limit sit back.
  4. you using the thumb brake a lot ross?
  5. use a caritool on your lanyard instead of a proper crab? easier to use than a small piece of throwline and breakaway when needed.
  6. No worries bud, he is originally from sri lanka. And i think your correct on them being a mainly urban based company but he was open to come to nz and see what effects they could have on the declining large kauri. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see the outcome. And a good day to you too.....

  7. hey david, Don is german based (surely his surname gave it away!!) he was in singapore working on a venture with arborculture, rejuvanating trees damaged during constructions-the case studies i saw showed impressive results.the regrowth looked natural and not forced. I believe they won the german award for environmental something or other ( we happened to be in a bar.....)

I will pass on your details within the next 24 hrs mate, all the best drew

some do some dont bro, just phone and ask them is the best way. work visa application is pretty painless anyway.
  10. yeah bro, super solid.
  11. standard pinto or rig bro? any normal climbing line seems to work sweet
  12. to make the hc work to its full potential, the pantin on your foot makes life a lot easier. Download the hitchclimbers guide to the canopy from treemagineers website and ask as many questions as possible
  13. haha ross, your excuse just got blown out the water!!!!!!!!
  14. get a motion bro, you wont regret it.
  15. problem solved. should have some cool pics soon

  18. well said peter
  19. nice pics jamie, gd effort bro
  20. Try the sips Ian, I really rate them. Shorts and chaps for me, 34 degrees and 92% humidity here in singa
  21. Why are they called waipou? That's a kauri forest in nz?
  22. The short answer is we don't know 100% but are pretty sure they will work. Don't really have too may options. Our proposed system will be, 2 ropes. Main line attached to a capstan of portable winch. Primary ascent will be motorized ascender, if this fails then we resort to the winch to haul us out. If this fails then the 2 nd line will be have a 10-1 fiddle block attached so crew can haul us up with that.. And we will be carrying full srt gear as well but thts a last resort due to heat suits, o2 tanks etc. no doubt the setup will have faults but that's the nature o the beast, constantly modifying and changing to suit the conditions as they occur.
  23. Nothing scientific, yet, just to be the first to get to the bottom and film up close. Ideally we want to get as close as poss before gear starts to melt. It maybe 50m from the lava, we just don't know. The other concern is gases but again we have no way if knowing u til we are down there. It's all good fun.
  24. Because it's never been done Basically. There's not many places that no one has ever been before.
  25. Hey David, that wellingtonian is short and fat. Apparently largest girth in s hemisphere but I'll look it up under the notable tree rgister and find out.
