  1. You can just climb up as normal with the wrench floating above ( or use the removable pin and attach it at the top) and then install a cambium saver ( locked off with an alpine butterfly) and then climb srt the rest of the tree. You will have to clip a pantin or footlocker if you want to vertically ascend the rope. However you try and map the tree so you don't get yourself in that situation as much. When you do, every 50 cm you lift you move 50cm unlike dbrt where you move 25cm so is actually really quick. Chucking your lanyard over your shoulder works well for longer ascents. The big key is climbing the tree and not just the rope. And also giving yourself time to learn a completely new technique. I've also got a few rope guides that are now redundant:(
  2. my treemotion is nearly 5 years old. leg straps have been replaced, all webbing replaced, new back pad, couple of new bridges. So which bit do i class as being out of date? its pretty much only the hardware that is original.

  4. as peter said. i personally think the whipping and lock stitching makes it look finished.

    TiltShift

yeah rob, you were the one that opened my eyes to it bro. thanks for that.
  6. cube all the way. Ive got 2 faltheimers, easily over 2 years old and still in perfect nic. The petzl one started to fall apart after about 1 month. Buy the original and its money well spent

    Hitchclimber

the most popular spliced length that i make up for people is 8mm x 850mm.
  9. also remember that youve got years of trad climbing technique stored in your memory and the wrench requires a different style of climbing. This will take time to learn so try not to write it off til youve spent a good time on it. When i first got mine i wrote it off as nowhere near as good as dbrt but after persevering for a month or so suddenly the light bulb went on and now its all good.
  10. Yeah it'll work. You could just girth hitch the webbing again onto the cs ring if you want to just extend it without it being adjustable. If you haven't got a ring a maillon is fine or a carabiner if it's all you got. An o rig lets you adjust how far your hc sits away/close to you, all you need is a bit of cord. Do a search for orig and I'm sure there will be pics the climbers section.
  11. You can make your cs bigger by just girth hitching a ring onto some webbing and make a Prussic out of it and attach to your cs. Instantly adjustable cs. For ascending, maybe try an o rig with you hc if your having trouble bro.

Altec, custom built here in nz. Double boom with 15m extension and a 7m scissor that unfolds at the base of the boom. Air suspension self levels to allow the boom to reach full extension at any position and any angle. Bloody expensive
  15. No changeover I doing an srt ascent for one...
  16. same here gibbon, totally changes the way you see the tree aye. and making mistakes is a great way to learn, every so often i still find myself climbing ala dbrt style but on srt-getting there though and mapping the tree differently. love it

now this is a machine.. insulated to 66kV, 22m reach, fully self adjusting when working on max out reach, can work the bucket 15m below the truck (for working on cliffs, bridges etc..) amazing bit of kit. Personally i prefer to climb but the speed of this thing blew me away as i watched. needs a good operator though
  18. i know someone who epoxy resined a pantin to his spikes for mid air ascents when doing removals.......
  19. yeah you can, it works quite well actually.lets you frog walk up easier than the lanyard trick.
  20. no worries bro
  21. cant watch iplayer in nz:(
  22. Yeah I've always found the 6.5 leaves a lump too. I do a 10 taper/ x over and never had an issue with te hitch holding. Donaghys spark requires only 8 be removed to avoid the skinniness, though that's no help to you

    Limb walking

as MB said, stretch your arms and keep low to thebranch.
  24. If its so tight it's pulling strands then I agree it's useless. I do however think the splice should grip the crab and not let the crab flop about.
  25. Um new England is USA. Teufelberger is German or Austrian. You won't be disappointed with the teufelberger one, it's te rope that is part of the CE Climb series. But all tachyon and lava ropes are of the same construction, just different colors.
