  1. the guys picked up every cone before i got down:001_cool:. and the hiab picked up everything but it was very very dead and really light.
  2. slow down, look up, dont look at your feet, point ya toes to release the rope. stop asking questions and just practice man.that what ya wanted!!!!!!!!
  3. hey mate, when i do a eye to eye splice i dont actually taper the core so that they meet up. there is a discernable difference between the diameter in the middle and towards the ends. I have a space of about 10cm in the middle that is 8mm, this helps the coils on my vt stay tight and the ends are stiffer helping the legs stay open. does this make sense? i run a short vt and it gets real hard putting in a eye to eye splice-i wrecked quite a few to start with and actually started doing burys of only 100mm (this still beat the fishermans in strength testing). I spliced some yesterday using the class 1 splice and to be honest im starting to think this might be the easier way to do things, i know this is opposite to what you first asked me so really sorry about that.

For the class II outer to inner final bury(instead of whipping it down) i taper the outer as per the class I instructions and pull it through using a wire fid.

  4. yeah should be sweet to catch up with you and ross on friday for abit of last minute practice. finish at 4, gotta be at pub for 6 though........... and a little carabiner to hold your strop out of the way will help heaps..
  5. Finally it came down. everything had to be lowered as ground is heritage. loverley day for it.
  6. youll have to wear the petzl full body harness anyway bro so that excuse just wont wash this time!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Same species. different location. we were not allowed to take in-canopy photos, so here is some from the ground.awesome. Really was an honour to climb these trees.
  8. same here.
  9. just tie a long footlock strop and then attach a 30cm webbing sling and tie onto your strop. You can then use this as an adjustable length footlock strop.(will also have multiple uses once in the tree) I like the air streams for footlocking in, the rubber rand seems to grip the rope.
  10. came up with this the other day and it works quite well when right out on the tips. turns ya lanyard into a mechanical adv kinda set up.
  11. Seed collection was for Kauri2000. a plan to restore parts of new zealand bush back to kauri forest just like it was before cook landed here (i think) got ya pm too
  12. some of its over 40000 yrs old-makes great wood for tuning, etc.... massive machines used to extract from the ground-the kauri museum (near the waipou forest) has great pics of it all if anyones ever near the area.
  13. the bigger trees have got a flat top so using redis is the way to go-lots of long traverses to get to the cones.
  14. down to about the size of a loaf of bread-even smaller if you had compression straps. the ultralight is even smaller, the model ive got is the cocoon.
  15. Some more.... you can just about make three of us out in the last pic!
  16. Just got back from cone/seed colection weekend. Big trees (but these are small compared with next weekend). Awesome time. Couple of 25m footlocks and SRT mixed in. Spent the night in the hennessy hammocks-they aer super comfy!! trees climbed were about 50m tall with huge canopy spread. Bush walking for couple of hours with 120m rope, full srt gear and dbrt gear was shattering-but worth it. got heaps of cool pics. location is kinda secret due to Kauri disease(type of phytophera). Really cool collecting the seeds for future seedlings
  17. Had the Klima airs for over 4 years (with many resoles) and loved 'em but now onto a pair of meindl air streams which i now love to bits-soooooo comfy

  19. Get a high anchor point and use redis, cant stand a pole saw up in the crown.
  20. cant argue with that dave.
  21. Should it not of been lock stitched to prevent the movement? is the whipping just for decoration or is it structural?
  22. Brilliant thread monkeyd
  23. Wheel came flying off my BC1000 the other week after service people forgot to do the studs up properly! luckily the wheel only hit a parked car but it could of been nasty.
  24. Nice videos man!!! Im off doing seed collection on the Kauris this weekend so will hopefully get some pics of the trees
  25. I drive a 4x4 canter for work. cant comment on fuel mpg as its not an issue here but the 4x4 system works well. Has a ridiculously useless turning circle, im 6ft 1 and the cab is fine for me, struggles towing a BC1000 (but auckland is quite hilly) and we do fill it right to the brim-the brakes cant handle all the weight but im sure it would be way over the uk road legal towing weight anyway. The clutch went today but apart from that it hasnt really had any problems. I think its tare weight is 4250 kgs.
