  1. aerial roots on a pohutakawa.
  2. Where i work it is a company policy to do an aerial practise monthly. i think its a great idea.
  3. cheers bro!
  4. how do you remember those things?
  5. isnt it designed to really work well on single line work? descent and ascent with no switch over?
  6. yeah i was only getting about 20m with the big shot, ill have to try again. how long is the pole on yer big shot mate?
  7. i thought something was a miss- i recognised the name........
  8. it might be possible ross..... cool pic dave.
  9. Are these called stink horns? they should, its like rotting dog cr@p. grows on the mulch spread around oaks.
  10. I can hit 28m just... When ive used the big shot ive used a 10oz bag-is this too heavy? Does placing the throwbag upside down make a big difference so that it flys straight? I always end whacking my fingers with the elastic cord and just giving up.
  11. agreed. is there a trick to the big shot? im sure i can throw further but im probably doing it wrong.
  12. sarcasm or blindness??????
  13. In big trees its really useful when you go up and down lots or returning on big branch walks, self tends the hitch for you. Definetley not ideal for all times but when they are used they can be a god send. and i just like mucking around with stuff:001_cool:
  14. Here ya go john, is this what you were after mate?
  15. I really liked the dg at first but once it starts going fluffy its a nightmare to use. too much friction over branches and tangles all the time. Zing it all the way now, good for pulling hangers out with too.

head to head comp at nz nationals.[ame] [/ame]
  18. its not a video but it is how i sometimes tie off at the base when srting. if you need rescue then groundie justs clips climbing system into the alpine butterfly, takes the tension, undoes or cuts the rope below the alpine butterfly and lowers you down on there climbing system. nice and easy and all it requirtes is a knot.
  19. replaceable soles. can you do this on the air streams?? i hope so
  20. And thanks to STIHL NZ, http://www.treetools.co.nz and D.M.Standens for sponsoring and awarding prizes and of course the judges for putting on a good day.
  21. Was a fun day bro-good effort.
  22. Decay detection? evaluate the sound wood? i wish that happened david. the council just said prune off the house, job done, sweet as. I fully recommended removing the tree but not my decision unfortunately. Its not even a reduction, just removed the limb going over the house. Ill give the council one thing, theyve got balls. Because you cant sue in NZ, things get left standing a lot longer than they do back in the UK. I think this is great 99% of the time but sometimes i feel they push it. Its hard being the contractor when you have to leave stuff you feel is unsafe-but then again nothing has ever gone wrong yet. When an oak failed a while ago, just missing a house-the council asked me if it was the one with the big ganoderma bracket as they expected it to go sometime!! keeps life interesting!! on a side note, this site is getting me more interested in fungi the more i delve into it-keep up the good work guys.
  23. 12m oak that leans over the house. council are fully aware of it but only want a tiny weight reduction on the house side. The brackets are about the size of a good sized dinner plate. Is it as bad as it looks? tree doesnt look too healthy either.
  24. ive tried the 10mm but personally i dont like it. all my lines are either 11mm or 12mm and once the 10mm hitch is spliced, it makes it bigger than my climbing line. Sorry for my confusing messages regarding the splicing but i find it REALLY hard explaining what i mean regarding the splice. hope you having luck with it.

  25. lowering was actually better as it would of smashed everywhere if we had felled it. replant is doing really well, with the sun and rain here it will grow silly quick
