    4X4 Tippers

legally i dont think you can use them on a trailor as the hopper height is affected but then again if you take it off and use it on uneven ground you will do the same but would be harder to explain to a h&s guy if some thing went wrong all that said i,ve been there and chipped on trailers

    4X4 Tippers

i,ve been after one of them caravan movers to put on my chipper but they seem a bit dear at £1000 and have been trying to get inspired to plumb up some hydraulic motors instead any thoughts boys and girls
  5. we were using the gripplers for tensioning wires which is not the cheapest wut better than just braying stakes in till tight enough

    H&S rumour?

please dont abuse me over this we are supposed to all work to the working at heights regs which states you should climb on a double rope system you should only climb on a single system if you have justified it in a generic risk assessment then its ok which is what we have done:wave::wave::wave::wave:
  7. difficult to get them tight without cutting into roots with either wood or wire and damaged a few roots and found if wet ground the root balls came a bit wobbly and wood get in way of irrigation system as do pegs for wire stakes often deter vandals and protect tree from knobhead grass cutters all down to area i think

    4X4 Tippers

be wary of putting land rover grabby tyres on pickups they do not work as well as i thought one wheel grabs and the other just spins and no traction at least on pickup tyres both spin and you go forward if you put chunkys on you get stuck straight away that is why pickup tyres are designed more like slicks after pspending money on nato tyres i had to go back to pickup tyres
  9. i prefere stakes have had problems with root ball fastening and have usually gone for stakes

    Spikes

i would not have the carbon fibre ones as i think they would get damaged in my kit bag i went for ali ones

    Three Do,s

speed is always a funny one its more about effeciency and depends on staff levels drag distance and chipper capabilities if i am dismantling next to 11inch chipper with 3 groundsmen i will work harder to keep them occupied where as 20metre drag to a 6 inch with 1 groundsman nice steady pace generally we process up the tree as groundies should be chipping brash not processing i am the fastest climber at work but you will never see me rushing its all down to planning and positioning! p.s if speed is how fast you can put the tree on the floor so that groundies are burried and take longer to chip up imho thats piss poor its about effecient working from one tea breakj to the next

  21. if you give me all your kit every other year i will do your inspections free gratis
  22. how thorough do we all check our own kit being totally honest if you had to check my kit and sign to say so you would be more thorough than doing your own and be honest if you were sending your kit to be inspected would you clean sevice or re tie or even remove the od bit of kit if your kit is well presented all marked up listed on check lists its not that expensive to have it inspected
  23. we went down the loler route when it came in and i think we are safer and better equiped when i first started i got an old troll manchester approx 12 yrs old with 3 previos users names in permanent marker and a bunch of screwgates that had been around for ever no one ever checked there kit or thought about replacement dates i personally would like the industry to tighten up how many of you actually check and record every week
