  1. If anyone has actual useful ways of making savings please share.. We have massively reduced our spend with yell over the years, but still spend about £2,000 a year, I called them today and they reduced our bill by 50% for the next 2 months.
  2. Anyone got one I could see? [email protected] if you want to keep it off forum Thanks
  3. I don't know but it is possible that wood air dried and kiln dried wood will burn at different rates. Personally I think a lot of people, many on here included are obsessed with moisture content. We season our wood (leave it outside for years) it will get dry and wet MANY times.. Re-wetted wood drys in a fraction of the time the fresh wood. In my experience sopping wet seasoned wood burns great after a very short period in the dry. Especially if they are left next to the fire.. keeping under cover for 2 years NOT required IMO..
  4. Think long term and suitability for hammock placement.
  5. This makes you look suspicious as hell. The police are not the enemy. If you are being a law abiding citizen why would you not just be helpful and not waste their time by pretending your some drug dealer who knows his rights..
  6. You can also fit man basket and use as a MEWP up to 43m.... Shame it can only do 35Kph.. If that could do 50Kph and tow a trailer...
  7. You could try a shakati mat. The Shakti Acupressure Mat - Your Personal Masseuse WWW.GOOGLEADSERVICES.COM The Shakti Mat is used as a wellness tool for overall health... I don't have bad back but they make amazing claims.. I do find it relaxing and often fall asleep on it.. You can get cheaper ones made by children with not a care for the environment from China on Amazon. Or pay the premium for an organic cotton one crafted by happy Indians.
  8. Whats not cheap? For team of 2 ... £50 a night? But only for high risk days.. Or £10 a week but 52 days a year?
  9. One of my clients has asked if we would do it and I recently had to do make up a number for tender. Currently I just ask guys who are available and call round hoping they will come in.. It would be nice formalize it, and be able to pay them something to ensure they are sober and ready to work if required.
  10. Does anyone charge companies standby rates to ensure they have a team ready for call outs? How does it work? Do you charge a nightly fee for a team to be sober and on call ready to respond? Do you just have a daily/nightly rate for when the forecast is bad? Or a lower rate all year? How much are employees paid to be on standby, like the 5th emergency service..
  11. Back when I climbed spearcuts were my standard cut when removing lombardy poplars in small spaces..
  12. Don't know how it is done. Will find out when we butcher a Spinney of trees..
  13. Thanks, they are going to have a shutdown.
  14. Is there a safe working distance from mobile masts? Links if possible. I have a spinney to reduce/topp. Tried google, but lots of info from people wearing tinfoil hats living next to them....
  15. What with the recent storm I had come up with a number of clients trying to claim on their insurance, what are the most difficult demands the insurance companies make. I have had. "I have a dangerous tree hanging over my house, can you come now? but I need 3 written quotes before you do any work" "The insurance will only pay to clear up the stuff on the ground. " Not the rest of the now dangerous tree" and I had some one cancel a quote this morning because: "The tree had fallen into the neighbours, and the insurance says the neighbour has to pay for the clean up.."
  16. I did a little research, the line was supposed to be electrified last year, this involved closing several bridges for several months. The electrification was however cancelled..... It is however possibly on again sometime in the next 5 years. So my advice was to wait and hope that the line gets closed and do the works then Basically just kicked the can down the road...
  17. It must make things easier for those putting out work to tender just to ask for arb approved especially if you don't have experienced staff to assess the tender. If a company has already been vetted then it is a much simpler process. They shouldn't need to do all the checks to ensure compliance as the as have done them.
  18. I have filled in a number of tenders that require you to be ARB approved (even won at least one..) and I do get people mentioning it. I would never put down other local companies to a potential client but when clients say they are getting multiple quotes I always recommend they use an ARB approved company as I know they are going to be jumping through the same hoops as me so their day rate is more likely to be comparable...
  19. I once went to look at a tree and the lady was complaining about the price. Her husband wasn't able to go due to poor health.. Turns out he had fallen out of the tree and injured himself.
  20. If you are spending a lot on a truck (New or used) might be worth registering for vat. Worth looking into flat rate scheme.
  21. This is ofted discussed. Imo Your shiny new truck will stay shiny and new for about 5 mins. Get a decent truck yes but nearly new..
  22. I think that would be top end.. I put it on a couple of Facebook sites and had a lot if interest but few people willing to come up with a number.. We have a Vermeer bc1000xl to replace it.
  23. Looking to sell our Timberwolf 250DH turbos, 10 inch 96hp, I can't remember the years but a few years old now.. One works fine, is in daily use and has 1482 hrs on the clock The other has 1933 hrs on the clock, engine was fine when we parked it up but but not been run for a few years. We have been using for parts, the chassis has some cracks and is missing the tow hitch a couple of tyres, a hydraulic motor, the spout and various other bits and pieces.. I have seen used ones advertised hugely varying prices in the last year, no idea if they sold at that price.. What do folk think they might be worth.
  24. Being ARB approved is expensive and very stressful on assessment day and it doesn't garantee you win tenders.. The main reason we do it is that it ensures we are working to best practice although there are quite a few tenders that do require you being arb approved.
  25. Pretty scary driving around when fully extended.. wobble around alot.. I would use more but transport cost often kills it.. I rekon one of these on a lowloader behind the tractor would work well.
