  1. My insurance states I have to check that sub contractors have insurance from a different company. So if my insurance believes '"subbies" are subcontractors I have to check they are insured with someone else... Changing insurers will have financial implications. I will contact my insurance but doubt I will get a simple answer. I probably should have done so before starting this thread but it came to mind as we offered paye employment to a freelancer who is working full time for us, but he would rather stay self employed..
  2. That is because after the last thread there were two opposing views and I was not convinced which was correct. I originally believed my freelancers were covered but not so sure now.. and it is something that we should be sure about...
  3. Cheers Paul. But if I understand it correctly a freelance climber to be eligible as self employed have to use their own tools. This means they surely can't be a labour only subcontractor..
  4. Paddy1000111 and others got quite heated about this subject in a previous thread and I had to admit I was not convinced either way. I had alway assumed like most of us that a freelancer was covered by my insurance. I have done the: GOV.UK - Check employment status for tax and happy that a freelance climber providing his on saw is classed as self employed for tax purposes (copy of the determination attached) But in my insurance Trust do not mention of freelance employees.. But does say Sub cntractors need insurance (with someone else).. 7. Employee means: any person under a contract of service or apprenticeship with the Assured or engaged by the Assured to perform a contract constituting the provision of labour only; while working for the Assured in connection with the Business. General Terms and Conditions 14. The Assured: a) shall obtain written evidence of the above; and b) shall not assume by agreement, any liability that would not have attached to them in the absence of such agreement, including but not limited to, the assumption of liability on behalf of any sub-contractor or the waiver of rights of recourse against any sub-contractor. In the event of a breach of this term, the Underwriters shall have no liability under this Policy unless the Assured shows that the non-compliance with freelancer.pdf

  6. The world is never in balance. It is always changing, it just happens that at this particular moment in the history of the world human activity is causing the change and as humans we could try and slow or reverse that change if we wanted. Or not..
  7. Not debating that. But if we all did it it would be bad and sending it to a municipal waste collection would probably be better.
  8. I don't know for sure and have no evidence to support my argument (I am sure someone with more time could find some), but am pretty sure you are wrong, small scale burning of waste in a domestic appliance is going to be releasing all kinds of nasties into the local atmosphere. While all the transport especially if it is international has an environmental cost I reckon micro scale home burning will be WAY worse. There is nothing wrong with properly designed landfill. It doesn't take up that much space and people are going to start mining them as a resource soon.
  9. He has been doing them for years and has got the design down. The Nissan is a fair bit smaller then our 3.5 ton isuzus and not sure I would want it as a main vehicle, but we run it along side bigger trucks and sometimes it's small size is useful. We had a nightmare with Nissan loughborough fitting a replacement adblue pipe, but can't really blame wesellanyvans for that.
  10. You probably mean wesellanyvans.co.uk we have recently brought a truck from them.

  17. We, like many are very busy, positions for full time, part time employed, or freelance. We have good kit, an avant to save your back, big chippers and good experienced crews.
  18. Wesellanyvans.co.uk have been making them for years and have it nailed in my opinion. Just do what they do..
  19. I saw a chipper on eBay that looked very like our stolen chipper. Called the local police and they weren't interested. It had been missing 8 or 9 years..
  20. I have never heard of a set "38 degree rule." Some local planners have, is this something I have missed, I have scanned NHBC chapter 4.2 and can't see how any of that would be relevant. Planners have stated: Any dwellings should be at 38 degrees from the mature height of the Common limes and therefore any dwellings have to be located further away i.e. not just outside the RPAs but in context of site working space, compatibility and shading. The garden for unit 5 is inadequate and would be overshadowed by the retained trees to the site frontage. Much of the internal accommodation to unit 5 would also be impacted upon in terms of natural light levels. The Tree Officer has confirmed that any dwellings, if 38 degrees away from the mature height of the limes, i.e. 22m. (ref. NHBC chapter 4.2) would be 28m. away from the trees.
  21. We ended up buying another truck and sticking with hiring the mewp. Trying to block the mewp jobs together. Currently got one on hire for 10 days on 5 or 6 different jobs. Place I brought our cabstar tipper had a 20m MEWP. I nearly brought it but decided our old izusu needed to be moved to back up truck and pockets not deep enough to buy both.. Wesellanyvans.com. I am still tempted.. 2008 08 NISSAN CABSTAR 2.5 35.13 MWB SHR 40300 miles only 130 BHP
  22. It not relevant how many companies you work for... an employee could work for 3 different firms each day and a sub contractor could work for one company for 6 months or longer.. i don't understand why people find it difficult to understand. Eggs explained it.
  23. I found this oak last week with strange marks. Any ideas? The marks circled the stem in a rough line at several different points up the stem. The tree is otherwise in good condition.
