  1. Dave, I don't know you but I was thinking of you and your family today.
  2. imo, it doesn't really matter if theft of kit and logs is going on. The fact that you're worried enough about it to post on the internet tells me you should no longer work together. It won't get any better, just rumble on for years and then you'll sack him.
  3. We've got solid rubber wheels on our dolly. No air, no punctures.
  4. That is terrific. Well done, Reg.
  5. What a great idea! That should be in the marketing thread.
  6. Might seem a bit pricey but the rain don't bother me one bit: Mountain Equipment Pro Lite Jacket from Facewest.co.uk Mountain Equipment Karakorum Pant from Facewest.co.uk
  7. There are some excellent reductions in this thread!
  8. Ferdinand's advice is sound. Reciprocal links are a bad idea.
  9. Lol. Stevie, do it all black. You know you want to.
  10. Thanks, Alex. Yea, I get it.
  11. It is so obvious. I think the idea of using a rope that didn't reach the deck must surely have been a joke! I like the background info on the 101 thing too.
  12. Anyone know why eucalyptus trees are dying in manchester?
  13. Jose, would you not consider this: IVECO Steel Bodied Tree Surgeon Trucks 10K under your budget. And a truck that will carry nearly a grand's worth of tree work.
  14. Bet this leads to another sneaky increase on the flat rate scheme, out of line with the vat rise.
  15. Rupe, are you saying two firms can't work together on the same job? Both working in their own style, under their own direction but aiming for the same goal?
  16. You don't have to have an employee to be a sub-contractor. You don't have to have a truck to be a sub-contractor. You don't have to look at work before you do it. If you feel like charging £140 for every set of jobs that takes one day, its a free country.
  17. I'd say its never been a better time. Full time staff can become a burden on a firm with very little work on. Subbies offer a nifty and flexible way of dealing with varying work load.
  18. jeepster, good luck first off, but you'll do fine. I reckon Big 'Ammer and Rupe are right about the insurance issue. Personally, I'd recommend you set up as a bone fide sub-contractor. Your climbing skills sound sorted; help your main contractors however you can. In time get good at quoting for them; look out for work from neighbours and deal with it. Keep tabs on their kit and make sure its getting looked after properly and serviced in a timely manner. Take responsibilities away from your boss and help him in every way you can. Post 'before and after' pictures of your reductions on arbtalk and make it clear which areas you cover. Invoice properly and promptly, without ever having to be asked. Charge at least £140.
  19. Similar to the caritool harness clip, I've fixed a carabiner to my harness with the gate removed; so basically an open hook. The bungee strop is set up the 'wrong' way round - choked onto the harness and attached to the saw-ring with a regular carabiner. The carabiner on the saw-ring drops sweetly into the open hook. Always works effortlessly one-handed. You can take the saw off the hook everytime without even looking at it and putting it back takes only a glance.
  20. Try to look as expensive as possible and get out of phone directories.
  21. Do you guys never ask daft questions when you seek the help of an expert in a field of expertise you know nowt about? I know I do.
  22. Good answer.
  23. Didsbury Park in Manchester would make a great venue for next year.
  24. I noticed today that all the cars I encountered in my truck seemed very courteous and careful.
  25. Like Tommy_B says, everyone likes different stuff. I'd leave it - if your website generates loads of biz, its working.
