  1. I saw this and thought, what about heritage or primarily display trucks, what about stuff classed as special vehicles, cranes etc?
  2. I know Leicester has a very capable bearing, belt and gear supplier. I bet there is on (or more) in every large town or city. Take it in and get their advice, they may be able to help with a straight swap or an alternative. Or wait for the Hyundai spare parts people to get something from China again....
  3. Sorry I was auto corrected.
  4. We use copper slip on CS100 blade torch bolts.
  5. Thanks for the heads up and clarification. Tbh, I'll still use copper grease myself..... Back to the OP, the bolts are in situ and still tight, 'nothing other than timber went through' but they bust and someone is quoting an inordinate amount of money for two bearings and a mornings work. What caused the failure he asked.....
  6. I got admit, I rarely changed the bolts or nylocs on my two GreenMech or Arboreater units back in the day, 150nm was tight enough! I over sharpened (depth wise) a couple of the Arboreater blades and they let go and made a mess, I just learned not to grind them back too close to the bolt holes. I never had a problem with the GM kit. Having worked for GM for a bit, I've only seen or heard of a couple of instances of blade/bolt bother. I think the copper slip thing is bunkum myself. A split or belleville washer may increase the torque value but I truly doubt that copper slip would. My opinion only and please correct me if I'm wrong. A true engineer to aircraft standards may change the fixings at every turn, on less critical items, punch a dot on each nut face then bin after 6 uses. A Ag engineer would use it until he could do the nyloc up by hand, but even so, FT is FT. According to the OP, the bolts are still good, it would be interesting to see the bolt holes etc to see if a crack runs outwards. At first glance, the blade has folded. An experienced user told me that the blade angle is too keen, thus leverage comes into play. While he had these units, he experienced failures that got expensive so turned the infeed speed down- this effectively reduced the performance but greatly reduced the chance of a blade folding. The models of chipper that incorporate a hydraulic tank as part of the wrap can experience significant damage which could result in massive oil loss, damage and cost if the blade punctures that and badgers the chassis too. Maintenance is critical, make time for it before it makes the time necessary and expensive.
  7. Is yours the ex - Cleartrack 550 with the whisper cut blades? If it is, they used to bust with monotonous regularity accord to a contact. I once started to watch a blade change and as soon as he opened the chamber, I noticed a crack, the blade was removed and rang. A dull tone! "Not again!" shouted the chap!
  8. Sliding mitre saw went the way of most of them - shame it is a PITA to get the gears as spares but all these modern gadgets are sold on a 'don't repair it but replace it' warranty. And this is well out of warranty. Time for a new one - anyone recommend a European make worthy of a DIYer?
  9. Spool valve actuator cap/lever. Has your ball fell off the end?
  10. In my news feed just now..... Kanye West running for POTUS. What makes these people (trump included) think that they would qualify for being any kind of Statesman worthy of a public job! Utter buffoonery in the USA!
  11. I always thought blade angle a tad keen too. If it hits something quite hard and quite quick - it could fold!
  12. Quite correct, I was towing, card in the tacho and cruise control on the go. They tell me that the cameras are now linked to the DVSA too.

Just got in from my first, necessary, visit to Loughborough town centre. Pubs getting ready, orderly queues outside of places, one way alley ways and lots of social distancing. Quite intimidating. Went to the bank and got away quickly....to think that there is nothing to stop people who want to shop, drink or eat out, coming to Loughborough from Leicester except for their conscience, commitment and consideration. All of which are 'C' words.

You are so right Gary, it being over is just the initial hump of infectious ness which the NHS couldn't manage. We now have the temporary super hospitals than can cope better with the number of idiots who think they are above heading advice, are aware that their god will protect them and Boris has to pay......sad. so truly sad.

It isn't helpful to blame anyone except the public in my opinion. We know that this virus can easily kill but we blame the government and Boris for spreading it. We blame the government for the lack of resources to provide NHS care but the public spread the disease by ignoring the advice of stay at home, don't mix with people outside of your house and wash your hands properly and regularly. The virus hasn't gone away, just because you haven't caught it yet, doesn't mean that it is safe to ignore what you gave been told!
  16. Apparently not. Registered, taxed, insured as a commercial vehicle. I know someone who got a spec'ed up T5 Synchro/4motion van with 2nd row of seats for family use and despite being very sweet, is classed/registered as a van and commercial rule apply!

If you are alive, you can rebuild. If you are dead? People can remember you at another, more appropriate time.

Same as the various protesters, beach goers, liverpool fans etc. Forget that there is a serious killer pandemic and do what they want to do!
  19. Took saturday afternoon and most of Sunday with a few breaks for tea and weather. Awfully fiddly, you just need patience and stamina to keep going! Had a couple of brittle pipes break which I could repair and I had the middle leak off break so I've to replace the whole leak off hose system as you cannot get the individual parts (so I was told). Ordered a Britpart replacement via mail order. Interestingly, the three main dealers in this area were either closed, or never answered the phone. Their webpage didn't really mention their parts departments either....
  20. I got a speed awareness course recently for doing 60mph on a single carriageway A road in Lincolnshire. The ticket was 60 in a 50, automatic camera, Ford Ranger crewcab. You have a good point on the BIK.
  21. As a 'commercial' you can get the vat back which amounts to a 20% discount. But as a commercial vehicle, you have different speed limits too! I think your insurance is possibly dearer tha soc, dom and pleasure too!
  22. Lockheed 3245-812C, fitted to Transit, Bedford CF, Triumph Stag, Austin Princess and possibly LandRover eyeball accounts. Twin piston, non sliding type.
  23. Some Rimmer stuff is keenly priced and other stuff needs a chair!
  24. The drainage issue at this end of the estate is an ongoing issue unfortunately. Done wrong in the first instance, never put right and never will be! To STWA and the LA, the cost/benefit ratio doesn't work. A couple of inconvenienced households get fobbed off. They have fitted a NRV on my property in the sewers, fitted blockage alarms, blamed each other for the issue, denied responsibility, blamed wet wipes, the "once in 50 year storm", climate change and a host of other factors! I got told to email pictures to 7 people in different departments every time my drive flooded, then got asked to stop sending them as I was being a nuisance. Local MP, local Councillor, town council, flood line, highways and local borough council......... Now, the might do something but it joins the list and time isn't of the essence....
  25. The pistons had a very minor or spot of corrosion on one, and a rust scab on the seal. The other popped out with compressed air but a damaged lip from belting it when the brakes locked on. Bigg Red in Worcester have a kit for £50 while a Chinese copy is over the £100 from local shop. Rimmer brothers have remanufactured units at £60 exchange! While I like to repair things - that is a 'no brainer'. Btw, Rimmer Bros sell English car parts and the same unit was Triumph Stag amongst other things!
