  1. Welcome to the club Theocus, did you buy the one from Colwall? Why was the chap selling it - he had that some 4 months!
  2. American stuff is well over engineered, the down side of that for a supplier/service outfit is that the spares and service work is few and far between. Getting the balance between longevity and planned obselecense is key, you want/need service work but not too much to make the client mad:sneaky2:
  3. DMan, I see your from North Notts/South Yorks. I lived in Tickhill for a few years, awesome pubs, great working mens clubs and really welcoming people in that area. Stayed their from '82 to '85 (weekends only) and it was like a long summer really. Great place, great times.
  4. What is the national minimum wage per week at the mo? Is there a big difference between the NMW and the standard agricultural wage?
  5. Keith Mills of Cotswold Tree Surgery rang me just now to report that from a barn that he uses in the Swindon/Purton area, he has had stolen a green 2yr old Yamaha Quad Bike, a Carlton SP4012 grinder, a GreenMech 25.18 Grinder and 4m long purpose built tri axle trailer. Please keep an eye on the usual auction/sale houses and adverts from all over. PM me if you see anything. Thanks.
  6. I looked at them in the early 80's, but got put of by the awful build quality at the time and that they were too narrow really. The low road speed made distance work a nightmare too. I seem to remember that they cost plenty new, but at auction they fetched nowt.
  7. I'd go with the pump thread, but also, what do the sooty blebs smell off? Diesel or water, turn the engine over by hand and check that the flywheel end is connnected to the fan end (turn both ways and rock back and forth). Good luck. Let us all know what the end result was.
  8. Sorry to hear you had abad day, but like the above - you got home, the house, wife, kids are still there - what more is required but a clean down and dry notes? Hope the notes do dry out and were is the photographs?
  9. Good job the steering arm was their to hold it together. Was the shopping dear, because I know the Disco is going to be! Good luck with it.
  10. "Chainsaw squint" Brilliant. Hope you can read all the messages of goodwill.......... GWS
  11. Looks like the US Army are having a bit of a clearout, are they trying to raise some capital? Some serious tools up for grabs there.
  12. wicked - but painful. Surely he knew that the ice was there!
  13. That is one funny looking front loader! Cheap tho'. I have spent ages looking thro Agriaffaires and Mascus then contacting the sellers to try and empty the Uk of used woodchippers.
  14. It'll not be the valves - they are self adjusting on the Kohler Command range, I would go for a couple of new plugs, new air filter and fuel filter.
  15. I should think that anything more than 100rpm it wowuld destroy itself! I wonder what the use for a feeler guage when setting the tappets? Imagine lapping the valves in!
  16. Ben, what colour do you get the shoes before putting the flux/tips on before sweating the silver solder in? If you get too much heat into the tip then it will get brittle, hence the shatter. They then need to cool down naturally, don't drop them in the sink! A C.A.T tool is used to find underground cables etc (cable avoidance tool) and most utility companies should offer this service buckshee to protect their asset and you getting a bill!

    chipper

GreenMech Wood Chippers, Shredders and Multi-Task Machines and look at the Quad Chip, under 750kgs, turntable, opening - 6x9 inches and can be had with 34 turbo diesel Daihatsu or Kubota all yours for an rrp of £14,500.00 Thanks for starting it Phil.
  19. I often wonder what happened to mine, I was the third owner since it was demobbed. Lovely bits of kit6 with no real modern equivelant.
  20. I locked myself out of the FreeLander I used to have. After an early start, stopped outside Abergavenny in a laybye for a pee, slammed the door and everything locked. Engine running, radio on, phone going and it was minus 4degrees C. I'm in shirtsleeves! Nightmare!
  21. Go back in time and change anything? Strewth, change everything! I would have gone to college to get every certificate available - just to prove I knew what I was doing, I probably would not be a "good" employer next time around, been more ruthless in business, not married so many times, started again after putting it into liquidation but, hell!, do something else? Never!
  22. I had a new computor late last year and had it loaded with the MS Office 2007 package. Apparantly, when loading this, it automatically wipes off the Outlook Express spell check so it defaults into French. Microsoft knows that it does this and apparantly recommend downloading another from tinternet. Microsoft does not accept any liabilty of course nor recommend a good free download. Any information gratefully received.
  23. As a kid I used to go to The Kegworth Steam Fair, now a distant memory. Still great to see steam on the road. Fantastic models you've got there!
  24. Give Matt Leigh a ring on 07739 403111 -give him my best regards whilst you're there.
  25. Dean, your spot on. On a handbrake with a big energy store, the height of the handbrake is a good visual indicator of the state of the brakes. The higher it comes - the more cable is being pulled in before the shoes hit the drums. Always adjust at the drum and never mess with the linkage.
