  1. Ain't it. My old man was knocked off his bike. When he came to in hospital the copper asked 'What speed were you doing, bearing in mind it was a 30mph limit?'...
  2. There's so many variables. I agree, making sure you can always descend in a hurry is a good idea. It might be that you've got to get down from the tree sharpish to help with an incident on the ground. Ive never had to carry out a rescue in real life. I reckon that without an access line, you've little chance of getting up there in a hurry.
  3. A few years back when I had a stint with an LA contractor, they'd practice AR every six weeks or so. It was a box ticking exercise. Most accidents happen at the branch tips, If you can't get out there sharp, you/they are in trouble.
  4. I've done loads of solo tree work. Just be extra careful. If you're not happy subbing to someone who has no competent rescue climbers, then just don't do it. In an ideal world you'd have a trained climber ready to go.
  5. Mate, they're all arseholes. Unless Bernie Sanders makes it, we're all doomed.
  6. You see Ti, I don't think it is. Everyone knows that politicians are a bunch of shitehawks. It's just that Trump has the audacity to not even pretend that we're being taken for mugs. Next level fuckery.
  7. Aye, at least Clinton tried to deny it. Trump's a melt, a shambolic version of a human and a terrible president.
  8. My mate's in this band, I think they're mint. Daytoner.
  9. Spam cannon.
  10. You should ask the promoters of the show. 18y+ would be a good idea. I reckon that the majority of people through the gate will know how to use a saw
  11. Have a word with Jez or Mark at Ancestor Leathercrafts. https://en-gb.facebook.com/AncestorLeathercrafts/
  12. Or glitter.
  13. Choose your battles. Accept that there's some scum out there. Protect your kit as best you can. Don't go to jail over a chainsaw.
  14. The beech is in the middle of nearby woods, it's one of my favourite trees. The other one is on a hedgerow ash in the other direction. Hungry fungi.
  15. That's bolivian marching powder in action. Not the moves of a person who's been drinking all night.
  16. I think that 'Stonemouth' is the best of his fiction. He only wrote fiction in the first place to finance his sci-fi writing. 'The State of the Art', is an amazing book. If you're into that kind of thing.
  17. Was the first Iain Banks book I read. Thanks to that, I've got a shelf full of his stuff.
  18. Thay seems pretty healthy They appreciate the value of tree workers over there.

  20. 25 Euro an hour for a competent groundie in Germany.
  21. I've got connections in Rochester, I can send you their details if you like.
  22. I met this olive tree in Vouves (rhymes with boobies) in Crete.
  23. ForestBoy, I'd learn the ropes on a prussik, you could even push the boat out and use a split tail and a blakes hitch. If you're concerned about rescuing someone, then you'd be best off knowing how to climb on the equipment that will most likely be there. Push comes to shove, you've got the three knot system. Once you're comfortable in the canopy and can tie your knots in the dark, then venture onto other things. When working with trees and ropes 'clicks' you'll be in a much better position to explore different methods of working a tree.
