I paid £300 ish as a sole trader. I reckon a quid a day is fair though. I pay about a tenner a week for Ltd accounts. A decent, recommended accountant will save you money. But more than that, you don't have to worry about the tax side of business or deal with the Rev at all, which allows you to focus on what you want to do.

I'd probably add SRV to that list too. Blues are great, you have to have experienced things before you can really play them with honesty. The biggest vocabulary in the world means nothing, unless you have something to say.

Agreed, you're looking at less than a quid a day for an accountant for a self employed sole trader.

I've noticed larger than usual leaves on the regrowth from poor/ill advised pruning cuts. I think stress does play a part.

Depending on the type of contract you have with companies and the status of your business, you can claim milage as an expense from HMRC. I'd recommend getting a decent accountant. For just over a quid a day you don't have to worry about what you could/should be claiming.

Ha ha. On a lighter note, it is canny amazing the things the Saudi's get away with. They got the last batch of weapons for next to nothing. You'd think we were after their oil or something.

There's so many variables. I agree, making sure you can always descend in a hurry is a good idea. It might be that you've got to get down from the tree sharpish to help with an incident on the ground. Ive never had to carry out a rescue in real life. I reckon that without an access line, you've little chance of getting up there in a hurry.

A few years back when I had a stint with an LA contractor, they'd practice AR every six weeks or so. It was a box ticking exercise. Most accidents happen at the branch tips, If you can't get out there sharp, you/they are in trouble.

I've done loads of solo tree work. Just be extra careful. If you're not happy subbing to someone who has no competent rescue climbers, then just don't do it. In an ideal world you'd have a trained climber ready to go.
