  1. war on drugs are fantastic as ever. saw them at the Eden Project last weekend. Absolutely faultless
  2. I've got an 8.5 tonne uniformest, remote control, powered outfeed etc. either goes on my t234 or n174. if space is an issue I've got a 4.5 tonne fransgard which goes on the back of a Massey 35 which you can sneak in to most places
  3. looks like its done a bit
  4. Always start with the hardest/most awkward tree of the day. if its a single day job you want the back of the job broken by lunchtime. ie crown off in a similar vein to always rake back towards the chipper, if theres multiple trees to come out on a site and you have a machine there start with the tree furthest away from the chipper (if access allows) as the machine can always be tidying back towards the chipper/brash stack if theres a slack few minutes plus then your not moving over ground/work again once its tidied Make sure every team has at least one timber tape in the van, nothing I hate more than timber that isn't cut to spec
  5. its just so efficient. There's no point being Charlie big bananas and taking gurt big pieces as it just slows everything up on the ground, slow and steady is the way in my opinion. Its proved to be a valuable piece of kit, but the excitement factor of using it has worn off, I said to one of the guys the other day that its actually fairly boring sitting in it all day
  6. crispy dead pine removal. about 20mins in work. tree was about 25m tall. IMG_9348.MOV IMG_9348.MOV
  7. its completely fraudulent, the tree is in no way responsible. the contractor damaged the roof whilst they were undertaking work on the tree, thus, they are culpable for making good the damage or instructing their own insurance company to deal with the situation. if you want to believe that its all ok and above board to encourage third parties to commit insurance fraud that's fine, but don't go round advising people that that is the best situation
  8. know what? I suppose you were only suggesting that the poster persuades a homeowner to make a fraudulent home insurance claim to save making a claim on there own buisness insurance whilst dressing it up that the poster is actually doing them a favour incase they wanted to sell their property in the future.
  9. amazing I suppose it saves on having public liability insurance
  10. is this a serious reply? "sorry my incompetent employees damaged your perfectly functional roof, but your house insurance will probably cover it. Actually I've done you a favour because if you sell it'll only get picked up in a survey so you might as well reroof it now"
  11. let’s try again… Tidying a wind blown cedar today. millable section is 4ft by about 20ft. weighed 3.5 tonne on the roto scales. dug out behind the root plate before we severed it to make sure it’ll sit flat. two of us on-site all stacked ready for chipping an tided by 3pm. all other timber will be cracked down and chipped along with the brush IMG_9314.MOV FullSizeRender.MOV IMG_9321.MOV IMG_9322.MOV

  13. no idea, i own a merlo roto so rarely have call to hire in cranes any more
  14. if you read the small print you'll likely find that it always comes down to you anyway
  15. Handy looking winch that Stevie, How much was it?
  16. this is a picture from that job, circa 2012. big monterey cypress, we craned the big stem sections with the grcs and pulled them out with the boxer while lowering them with the grcs. seems mad that that job was 11 years ago these days i’d crane it out with the roto and stack it in the car park, crack all the timber down then chip the whole lot with the heizohack and run it off site in a 16tonne trailer behind a tractor
  17. when i first got my boxer 427 back in 2011 there just wasn’t the choice off attachments out there. i used to swear by a set of pallet forks and a grab bucket for all of my work until i got a fabricator to make me a branch manager grapple (big in the states at the time) copy which made a huge difference for feeding a chipper or dragging brash out. I also had a post knocker and flail for it and had a stump grinder attachment for it which was truly shocking. ended up part exchanging it around 2015 when i bought another mog and needed a pro chipper. by that point i had a mini digger with a grab and tractor and roof mount so it had become kinda redundant. amazing machine and i certainly wouldn’t have the kit i have these days without taking the plunge and spending 8.5k (big outlay in 2011 for me) on a machine i wasn’t sure was going to work out. massively changed the way i worked at the time
  18. spent an enjoyable 5 mins watching a couple of swallows out the back of my yard (New Forest)this afternoon. Also saw a lone swallow two weeks ago at home when I harrowing, interestingly up until last year id never seen a swallow at home and we've lived in this house 10 years (always seen swallows at my yard 3 miles up the road though)
  19. i actually think that’s a fair point, i had a customer recently that insisted on paying cash, it took me three subsequent visits to actually pick up the cash as they they weren’t there at the times they said they would be. that’s probably the equivalent of 1 1/2 hours of additional time on top of the job to get settled up

  21. ours is 7m, personally I wouldn't go any smaller for loading chip into a walking floor
  22. is half a day actually half a day? they way I look at things you've either got 1/3 of a day (till tea break) 2/3rds of a day (till lunch time) or the 3rd 3rd of the day (lunch till finish)
  23. I usually tell people to do nothing at all, then when they can't stand it anymore fell the thing and put something else in its place
  24. honestly it sounds like you weren’t ready for the assessment. go out and practice, then practice some more. forget about things like little poles to try and get lines over things, practice rope throwing and get more confident, comfortable and consistent with what your trying to do. good luck
