  6. I think they are gear driven Jim. The 2wd ones looked very similar on belarus but on this one you can see the larger hub with the gears in it. Around the same time John Deere tried something that looked very similar but wasnt. They thought up a hydraulic driven 4wd system. They all broke and the tractors ended up being 2wd with a little extra front end weight as standard!

  9. Had a spell of nearly 2 years living in a town, longest 2 years of my life! The night life was, shall we say "entertaining" though:sneaky2: I now live in a village like this. Its full of managers of this that and the other, all have company cars and I'm one of the very few who doesnt go to work in a suit! THEY LOVE ME! Lots of commercial vehicles, land rovers, building stuff on the drive, servicing very noisy machinery and having plenty of garden bonfires. Its great!
  10. Id say it doesnt want to make much more than his opening bid, but it will. LOTS more! A breif description isnt always good IMO. I dare say the saw is straight but makes me wonder why there is no bar & chain, and why he hasnt even cleaned it? If that saw had genuinly done 2 hours work, he could clean it well for the pics, give a good reason for sale and easily pull £450 for it.

  13. I would say 2500kgs is a fair guess although I have been out of farming for some years now so the grey matter has aged a tad! It would be worth trying to find out the individual specs of a few different tractors to be sure, but I think the spec is only either on the hitch itself or the operator handbook. Think there was a newish member on here who is a farmer may have one he could look up perhaps. Cant remember his name though, sorry:blushing: If your load monitor still works on the 525, it should give you a rough idea when its at the top of the green part of the scale for 2.5tons, not when the back wheels are off the ground!

  16. Steve, Jon does have a valid comment about overloading the drawbar of the tractor. When you say the trailer is currently nose light, what sort of weight are you expecting on the tractor when its loaded? I only ask as it is suprising how low the actual rated capacities are on most tractors.
  17. Had another thought! Many years ago, my Dad had a PTO driven air pump bought mainly for tyre inflating. Very basic thing but was easily fitted and be worth carrying in the tractor cab. It was 30 years ago so not sure if you could still get one, but Im sure it would be a lot cheaper and easier than buying and fitting an engine driven one.
  18. I guess you realise why I asked about the air bags then Steve! Its always been a big problem with the more modern trailers converting them to one that will serve multiple tractors. Changing them to springs is a major job too, hence they are usually cheaper to buy than the old sprung type. As for an answer, not sure there is a perfect one Steve but depends how long it will be before you get your own tractor sorted. I assume when you get one it will have air capability? In the mean time, if it will usually hold air for a while and it will be brought back to the yard regularly enough, can you fit a coupling to the tank and top it up via a workshop compressor? I knew of a farmer running one like that for years, but he also fitted an additional tank that was connected to the main tank, and shut off on a valve but then turned on if the main tank got too low. Kind of a backup, get you home type idea.
  19. Looking good Steve. I take it you just removed the front axle and the other two will be in a good position to not overload the tractor hitch? Out of curiosity, are you taking out the airbags or have you some way of keeping them full?
  20. Guess its a case of only be worried if you are doing something somewhere you shouldnt be!
  21. I see your point here Dave now. This is where we differ in opinions of who is "in charge" on site. As you know, I sometimes I use a contract climber, and sometimes climb myself. The difference is, although I may be the "boss", if Im climbing the groundy is still in charge. Although all cutting decisions should be made by the climber, the main groundy is in charge. He is the first point of cantact for anyone, not the climber regardless of who is the boss.
