  1. I make a point of not giving tree quotes without seeing the works, but in 8 years, i have had two enquirers insisting on a tree price over the phone and eventually i told them anywhere between £40 and £6,000. They both said thanks for that, bye! Guess the trouble is with me stevie, i know i am charging top money for logs, but would like to think i can give the customer an exact volume of what they are buying. It seems the public are used to this very vague (and open to manipulation) way of describing a delivery of logs. Not many other products have such uncontrolled weights and measures.
  2. You do know where i am coming from though Steve, surely? Its like saying your prices for tree removal are £400 for a small tree and £1800 for a big one, or im going to start selling petrol and diesel, my prices is £30. Would you buy any?
  3. But how big is a load? Surely people are not that thick? If i delivered a load it would be £400. This customer had been paying £140 for half a load. I know another supplier, sells at £60 a pick-up load, another at £180 for a tranny load. How can anyone tell whats the best value?
  4. Did try that Dean, she couldnt visualise something that measured 1M x 1M x 1M! She would of been happy for me to deliver "A Load" though:bird: I still cannot get my head around this, i know ive said about it before, but is it only me that thinks terminology like this is just WRONG?
  5. Amazing what you can do, even without a plough!
  6. AAAARRRRGGGHHHH! Had it again today, woman rings up and says how much are your logs delivered? "£60 per big bulk bag" i answer, "Oh, how big is a big bag she asks" "They measure 0.72 cu meter level, but i heap them up a bit so you will get nearer 0.75 or 0.8 cu meters" "Ah, ok not real sure how big that is" "Erm, well its less than a cubic meter" i reply "Oh, well the trouble is we've only bought it by the load or half load before" :cursing: She did go on to order two bags, but ended by saying "well i guess we'll see how big the bags are when you turn up with them"! I feel its a big uphill struggle sometimes
  7. You still get my vote for worst day Bob:001_rolleyes: And i have reduced 80M of thorn hedge today:001_huh:
  8. The last time i was in a rascal(van type) there was 6 of us in it, those of us in the back thought it would be a great laugh to swing side to side and scare my mate whitless, trouble was, it did, and tipped the van on its side at 50mph! Now that was a night out! We all clambered out, rolled it back on its wheels and carried on. Never been in one since!
  9. I used to do maintenance for our local Mitsu dealer, they had one on the forecourt for over 18 months. When it dissapeared the dealer principal told me they never sold a single one!
  10. The latest shape ones start around £14k new list, will tow 2.7 tons but only carry 900kg max Dare say the motor will last forever though.
  11. :thumbup1:Thats the one i was looking at:thumbup1: At £6K i dont think any `04 landy will be around long
  12. If its the one at Lix Toll, i think you might find its nearer £15,000:blushing: Already looked at it:sneaky2:
  13. He does state in the very first post its stihl chain.
  14. Even modded ones Bob?
  15. Ok, i have tried in the past to try and drum up interest in chain sharpening with limited success, but thought anyone who is struggling with the basics might find this helpful. Please note this is the Stihl version, and everyone has slight differences in opinion, but there are some useful bits of advice on here; http://www.stihllibrary.com/pdf/SharpAdvice061301final.pdf You may want to increase size to 100% for easier reading.
  16. My bad here, i just assumed the 341 had 3/8 fitted standard, but you are correct, i believe they were also available with .325!
  17. Soap flakes is real good and not harmful. If they dont work, the Beal rope cleaner is said to be great. Either way, dont go over 40deg C. If you put it in the washer, rope wash bag is best, but a pair of your grannys tights is ok, or a pillow case. This stops knotting.
  18. Here you go tuppy, 3/16 file for this; Oregon takes a larger file, hence; Very curious as to how you've been sharpening until now though:sneaky2:

What is this foreign tongue you all speak:001_tt2:
  20. Big can of worms this one, unfortunately a very big part of our job. Its very hard finding facts, unless you are unfortunate enough to be in the situation of having an accident, then you have a strong chance of being jumped on!
  21. Come on boys and girls, tryin to send a PM to someone with a full box is a pain! I'll name and shame the latest; FRANK:001_tt2: Feel free to list further culprits!
  22. Yes you are correct Chris, but with say a truck with a MAN of 2000kgs, its perfectly legal for a post '97 license holder to tow a chipper weighing 1200kgs.
  23. Lol! I feel like going to bed now and facing the Wrath of Kahn in the morning:001_huh:
  24. Seems he's not on his own though Jonny
