  1. Dont know what it is but whenever i see any of your pics, i always get a feeling that you are learning in a way that very few nowadays have chance to. It always seems that you are working in traditional, but hard working happy environment. You are a very lucky fella. Keep the pics and stories of your work coming:thumbup1:
  2. Yeh, no worries, i was really wondering if you cut to order, and if so, how do you manage to get them dry as even lengths that have been stood on a heap for years are still not really dry when you split them. Its a nice situation if you can provide a service thats as flexible as different log lengths. However, i found that its a lot of messing around doing different sizes, but firwood is not a major part of my business so if customers dont like the size i supply its tuff! I always sell out as they are!
  3. Intersting that young 'un. Do you take the order, then cut the firewood, wait till it dries then let them have the logs?
  4. I find between 9" and 10" is a good average that suits around 95% of customers. Anything less than 8" are GRANNY LOGS and arent worth bothering with:001_rolleyes:
  5. You are correct Dave, and i think its to do with LOLER somewhere along the line. If you only use them as a measuring and storage vessel filled on a pallet as i do, then load with forks onto the truck you can roll them out with the truck semi-tipped:thumbup: Nice way of selling a set volume in bulk, and you get your bag back:biggrin:
  6. Is there an echo? Come on Mesterh, are we near? Do you have info thats different to this?
  7. Very cutting tonight Nige' date=' you been in the knife box? This part still applies:001_tt2:
  8. Now, i would pay a lot of money to see you ride that Kev:lol: Has it a 1300cc hyabusa under the tub?
  9. The 50mph law for main roads is so old, even the rozzers dont know it:001_rolleyes: I recon if something went wrong they'd soon find it though:sneaky2:
  10. Ok, heres my full guess; car derived van, ie escort van; same as car. Lutons, pickups, trannys etc and upto 7.5t; 50 on main road, 60 on dual carriageway, 70 on motorway, but if towing only 60.
  11. Vans 50mph, very old law but still applies.
  12. Ok, got the price wrong these i spoke to quoted £5.30 +vat inc delivery for 075 cu M Bulk Vented Log Bags & Net Bags from Bag Supplies (fibc) Ltd, Dundee, Scotland Only thing the guy did say to me was these bags are treated against UV decay, but if they do still deteriorate i can get builders bags (0.72cu M) at less than £2 each and cut hole in them as stevie says and use them as single trip! So are they worth it?
  13. Been looking into getting 0.75cube vented bags, and looks like best price i can find is £5.60 +vat delivered. Not too worried about the price if they give good return, obviously need to be used a few times each, so just wondering for those of you who have had them a while now, are they lasting? Anyone with tips or advice on looking after them would be great, like are they affected by UV like builders bags, and do you leave them with customers, if so what sort of deposit are you charging etc.
  14. Cheers Ed for this thread, really enjoying it, as i am classed as a "Newbie" to climbing, giving me a great laugh:biggrin: The thing that comes to mind though is how fast things are moving on. After 5 or 6 years climbing, i am now getting comments like "oh, you still only climb on a prussik dont you"! Back then anything like a VT was just for the hyper techno guys where i was taught! Keep em coming you old boys:sneaky2:
  15. A bit contradictory there, but, the best way to find out is have a go. Even if you dont earn as much as the blokes, you dont turn around and say "Im throwing in the towel"
  16. Been playing with this little baby today, think i might choose one with a cab tomorrow if the forcast is anything to go by;
  17. Voted 14 on the 200 but thats only because i have a 192 with a 12 on. Dont know if i didnt have the little saw.
  18. I thought oregon made husky bars anyway:sneaky2:
  19. Also is it an optical illusion, or is the log on the right smaller?
  20. Didnt really want to butt in, but i was thinking the same! There was little between the saws near half way through, then the stihl bar seemed to be bogged all the time. Never a fan of comparisons like this, my 260 cuts like the stihl bar one on the vid............. After i hit a nail with it:sneaky2:
  21. Very nice, and as another sideline you could go into selling signs to order:thumbup1:
