Ok, I know I will get shot down for this one, BUT, be very, very careful! I have recently looked into this, and the law has changed. YOU CAN ONLY TRAVEL UPTO 1.6km FROM ONE PLACE OF WORK TO ANOTHER WITH AGRI REGISTERED VEHICLES Shoot me down, slag me off, do what you like- i dont care- but i would seriously advise checking with DVLA first, I have, also with VOSA, same answer!

Going back to Davids origional requirements, first comes staff and tools. My double cab can seat 6 legally, although i believe its now only 5 as the lap belt has been stopped for new vehicles. I believe if you are not travelling great distances with 4 or 5 burly blokes in, as i believe David wont be, i cant see the comfort thing being a big issue. As for tools, either 110 or 130 can be well kitted out with a variety of back boxes, roof racks, winches etc. As for a tipper, possibly in your case leave it to a trailer, it sounds like the back is more valuable as tool carrying. Trailer manufacturers, least depreciation Ifor, but there are many other good builders around now. Some good deals around at the moment too! I think the rest of your list seems to be previously well covered. The argument of for or against landys will go on forever, and i dare say they will continue to have a massive following. The land rover still seems to be the one of choice for all the utilities, getting them kitted out with all sorts and carrying crews. A thing that probably wont concern you much David, but worth saying is, they are probably the best 4x4 for depreciation.

Im with Nige on this one, the 110 and 130 share same cab and running gear, still tow 3.5t, only difference is the Hi-cap rear tub being longer and wider. The 110 dbl cab is capable of carrying 4 or 5 crew couple of sets of climbing kit, several saws, tools etc in the tub. Only downfall being you cant get anything in thats 6 foot long! Even diagonally:blushing:

Manage to get a very large stock of loops for all my current saws each APF. Seem to be cheaper per link than reel price:tongue_smilie: Any new saws with different chains on from local dealer, but special, ie ripping chain from Net.

I sure do agree with you and Ed Tom as far as reliability of dead wood holding on when dismantling, my comments were to do with having the attitude of "expecting" damage!

If the crane was used as Ed says, this would not have happened! There is nearly always a way of avoiding damage, not expecting it! Cant believe you would expect damage when you had a crane coming anyway!

Ok then, only really posted this for a bit of interest, just goes to show how different people view things to suit the individual set up they have. Just to clarify, there is no vehicular access to the tree, but a crane could reach, however price for such to remove stems would counteract value of timber i suspect. I told the customer we could remove the tree all in one day if it was ringed for firewood, and that is what the price was based upon. However, i did explain that i could leave the stems for another day, and spend extra time planking them up, and therefore find a better use for the timber, as elm in this size is getting harder to find. They were delighted to here there could be a better use for it, and therefore my extra time milling is my decision, therefore my bonus if its good wood. Otherwise, its logs:cool1:

Access is approx 15-20meters to gate. Stump is to be left. I plan on 3 men one steady day getting it all down, chipping done, all logs cross-cut and away, stem down. Leaving anything that will mill for later as a bonus:thumbup1: Opinions are good, so what "bonus" do you think i should expect for the milled stuff? Oh, its not for advice, i have the job, i can tell you the price later....... When you all give up:tongue_smilie:

After seeing the thread on pricing a big elm by Highland Forestry, I thought of this job i have to do. I find its always interesting putting a topic up on pricing as everyone has different views, and certainly prices! This Elm is around 70+ feet with little canopy, a nice 3feet DBH soon forking into two. The larger stem is nice and straight to over 25 feet. The crown needs rigging out, access is is not too bad and the stem will clear fell. Whats your opinions on this one then? Prices, milling opportunities, just out of interest;

Robin hoods bay is great, but not buggy friendly at all is it! All the car parks seem to be at the top of a hill and the shops and beech etc, down the hill!
