Many thanks for that David, thats the type of thing the client wanted to put up. One of the objectives of this exercise is to raise the puplics awareness. Hopefully, due to the location it will create a lot of interest, and in time may become a more common practice. Ive also taken on board the comments such as height, and perhaps some fracture pruning in the future in place of so many coronets. As you guessed, it was our first attempt, so with some luck, we should get better! I shall now go onto the massive task as you requested, and translate all info to Darren! Well i'll try!

No worries about liability risks as the client is happy to remove it on the grounds of safety if it becomes an issue. The stem will be carefully monitored by myself on a regular basis.

I would like to add that this job resulted from the floods of 2007 where this frontage was under water for several weeks. The works took three days to complete with just two of us mainly on site, and Frank did his usual blinding climbing performance! Over an 80 meter stretch we had to remove 8 semi mature sycamores, many holly trees and several shrubs. This obviously has made a massive impact on the approach to the hotel and the monolith idea was partly to with "trying to leave something standing"! This particular stem being the widest girthed tree.

Real nice. I wasnt too sure how public it was. I can see its a lovely park setting, but nowadays if people see timber on the floor like that they think its free firewood!

:scared1: To be honest, the job went really well, FRANK climbed all that was needed and there were no incidents, nothing broken but it was COLD! When it came to the monolith, for some strange reason i volunteered to do the coronets, and young frank, who i think wanted to see the big lad in a harness, agreed! Unfortunately, as i got more of the coronets done, my thoughts wavered from the job in hand, and i ended up with a fear of spiking out! The sight of all those spikey bits of dead wood protruding towards me, while legs akimbo left me with a bit of a cold sweat

At the moment im getting £60 for a 0.75m cu bag of green ash, and its flying out! I was told the other day, of a coal merchant selling coal at £200 per ton delivered. Not sure if that can be right as it must be cheaper than logs in terms of calorific value, but if people still want to buy wood, lets keep supplying it!

The barts head is brill Alex! Even the customer came out (having never seen one before) and said it just looks like............ yes you guessed! Obviously due to the location it is expected to be a large talking point from visitors. Does anyone know of some real good info the customer could put on a board near to the monolith, explaing all the natural benifits of it? Not sure my explaination could be translated well enough to put on a board, but they would like to show the public they are willing to promote this type of environment. Any links or info would be appreciated.
