  3. There is a wire crossed or Typo there Pete, If the standard Cat B car test was passed after 1/1/97 the driver can legally drive a vehicle grossing 3500kg and a chipper upto but not hevier than 750kg Without the Drag test. The Drag test B+E entitles the driver to drive a vehicle grossing upto 3500kg with a trailer upto 3500kg.
  4. Mine being a single cab with the high sides with kit on board and me is 2590kg. giving me 910kg payload.

    Been away

Evening foiks, blimey I've got some catching up to do 408 unread posts. I've been away since Friday at the Motor Heritage Centre in warwick for the celebrations of land Rovers 60th Anniversary. My 130 was on show along with some other vehicles that would be usefull in the arb industry. Here is HUE the first Land Rover Series 1 ever off the line, it was driven by Radio 2's Lynn Bowles on the Heritage Run from Solihull to Gaydon yesterday
  10. Yep tail wagging the dog!
  11. Its amazing also how many small business think they don't need Employers liability insaurance if they use subbies when actually they do. I'd be getting some expert help If I was the employer in this situation too. Skyhuck, I completely agree that people should take responsibility for their own actions, only last week I cut my arm in the workshop. My boss wanted it reporting to the nearmiss hotline this that and the other an investigation blah blah. I just filled the accident book in and said it was my own stupid fault end of! Some of my colleagues would have taken it all the way.
  12. I've been for the last 10 years, Doubt I'll go this year though. Cost of fuel and seeing the same things as last year and the year before that are putting me off. Think in future I'll do SED on years the years APF isn't on. Unless of course the Gaffa decides to be nice and send us this year In works time.
  13. On a Cat B licence passed after the 1/1/97 I can tell you that you are totally allowed to drive a vehicle upto a gross weight of 3500kg and a trailer/chipper upto 750kg = gross train weight of 4250kg. This isn't hear say or told by a mate blah blah. Its clearly stated on the DVLA web page,
  14. In simple terms yes andy you can drive a 3500kg gross truck with a 750kg trailer = 4250kg Gross train weight.
  15. Chris, come and say hello. What landy is the bravest choice then? Photos are garanteed I've got a new camera and this will be its first proper outing provided I remeber to pack it on the day! lol
  16. I know a few of you are into your Land Rovers next weekend is the Land Rover Heritage weekend at the Motor Heritage Centre in Gaydon Warwickshire. So if any of you want soemthing to do Saturday or Sunday pop along. My 130 is on the Working Rovers stand so I've spent all weekend with the bucket sponge and polish! which I must get back to so if anyone decides to visit come and say hello
  17. Er thats not true really. I've done the trailer test, There is no theory or medical or hazard perception test. It is advised that generally 2 days training is required for a new driver. The test does contain the same exercises as the HGV C+E test (class1 Artic) I.e, braking, reversing, un couple re couple 40mins on road drive. and is carried out at a HGV test centre. The above test can be done for £100 or less than £500 inc two days training HGV class 2 is now HGV class C (rigid) to pass this most dricving schools recommend minimum of 5 days training +test the cheapest I've seen that advertised is £900 round here plus the Medical, Theory test and Hazard perception, then it will only limit you to a Cat C vehicle with a light trailer of 750kg in this day and age. In arb if your running a large wagon you'll be dragging a big chipper so you'll need then to do your C1+E or C+E test. Its not a simple issue and its a flippin expensive one too! I've driven 7.5 tonners and larger around farms and estates quite happily I can't drive one on the road without payin a grand for the privlidge yet my dad who passed in 19?? when cars were steam powered can legally drive a 7.5 tonner and yet wouldn't have a clue were to start!
  18. I Wish i'd had a pound everytime I'd heard a landy owner say that! lol:icon14:
  19. not used them myself but these people list it on there site http://www.wmts-ltd.co.uk/contact_us.htm
  20. Before the latest war in Iraq took off I remember watching a programme called "Motorway" on Central TV and it stated that Highways agency crews and contractors had a higher mortality rate than front line troops. Its a dangerous job now but sadly I thing the Iraq war has turned the above around.
  21. Stop messing on here, check ya messages and ring me!:cussing: but yep diesel is 1.16 here, its going up daily.
  22. Chris your right Pre Td5 110 & 130 rear axles were Salisbury yes. The actual front axle internals may well be the same on all models, but the 130 still has a higher permissable front axle weight over the shorter wheelbases. As for the crane only the man running the vehicle knows if its worthwhile, personally doing what I do with my 130 I'd quite like a crane like that and yes I've used one.
  23. very odd! - let us know what you find in the long run. It'll be interesting to know.
  24. I don't quite understand that statement. I was stating that the 130 has different permitted Axle weights to that of a 90 or 110. And the crane installation would have been designed to these at production. I didn't mean the axles would break, However if you fitted a standard 90 or 110 axle to a 130 It may well be upto the job but you could have problems if you had an accident and it was proved that the axle was over the weight of that it was designed for. You can be prosecuted for being overweight on an axle
  25. Something doesn't sound right there, has the motor been serviced lately? there seems to be a lack of efficency on the rear axle. My brakes will hold me at a full 7 ton gross train weight on the steepest of hills and they are only standard LR Brakes. On recommendtaion I can put forward though is an X-Eng Disc hand brake, They are truely awsome for hill starts when towing they are so much stringer than the standard LR hand brake. The X brake will hold the whole rig comfortably.
