  1. 130's are 3500kg Gross vehicle weight.
  2. The fine may seem cheap but bear in mind if your caught once and prosecuted VOSA will then keep an eye out for you and the fines/punishments get heavier, points on licence will mean dearer insaurance as well. its all worth taking into account.
  3. Are you really saying you are prepared to spend out on a newer 3.5ton tipper load it overweight regularly? Thats how your post reads? Ed has a point about fines, however I'd be more worried about being on the same road as you when you have an accident caused by regular overloading. Think about it if the vehicle has been designed to gross at 3500kg. thats it. You will be putting exvessive strain on the drive train, brakes, chassis and tipping gear.
  4. The 130 wasn't originally designed as a tipper option, and to be honest still isn't a viable option for a tree surgeon spending 90% of their time on tarmac roads. There are better 3.5ton tippers out there for road work. A Landy is good if you don't need to cart much chip off Need the large towing capacity spend a lot of time off road. Thats why I have one, I could never upgrade to a 7.5tonner it would do my nut in, I'd have to clear fell half the woods I go into to get it in. Dean, Your tipper looks like its a steel dropside? or is it painted ally? Also your chip box looks like it consists of a lot of 3/4ply thats roughly 20 kilos a sheet if its dry so if you 5 sheets that 100kg! is it worth trying to shep a few kilos? I don't really know the nature of your work but I guess you like the landy to drag the mewp round?
  5. LOL! am afraid the farmer staked his claim to his tree all of 5 seconds after we had took it out for him, Wish he had been as keen to organise extraction!
  6. Charlie, The reason it came out today rather than earlier i the year was its taken so long to get authoriseation from all the different departments. Its only a few hundred yards up from a Hydrometrics station, several bridges and the area is prone to flooding. Staking into the bank wasn't an option as it was causing a 70% channel blockage and in the time we were organising extraction it the water had undercut the banks. The tree had already started to break up and bits drift off causing problems, faffing in the channel cutting it up wasn't an option due to the depth of the water, all work had to be done from the bank In this day and age we have to justify everything we do and get away with nothing. Matt
  7. I have some friends that have decided to keep a few sheep in a paddock, Unfortuneatly it was rather wild so we spent saturday topping grass clearing windblown trees and stock fencing. Its about 1.5 acres and we did the whole lot in a little over 14hrs
  8. We've had this job on the cards for months, Usually we'd have stopped tree work by now but this was a serious risk to bridges downstream, Never the less it took a long while to put the Health and safety package together, But today was the day.
  9. At the end of the day me sticking a few pics of my kit on here is no different to me hitching it up and dragging it all over the country, Its all sign written with address's on its more of a give away than anything.
  10. I think it was £7.50 last time I went.
  11. Traffic management is covered by NRSWA Legislation Chapter 8 is a sub section of this that covers most roads except high speed national speed limit stuff. Really you need to have done the course NRSWA Chapter 8 to set up basic management, Traffic management doesn't have to include traffic lights. it can just be signs and cones provided the situation is right. and they are laid out correctly, you also need to make arrangements for pedestrians. Its fairly impossible to tell you what you need without seeing the street but if you google NRSWA you should find some info and possible course providers. Either that or ring a a local Traffic management company and get a quote for them to do it. It may all sound complicated and a bore but just think who's head will be on the block if some one has an accident or worse still a member 0f your staff is injured.
  12. I agree I have witnessed the same local tree company do two jobs in our village this last week. They have allways looked a very profesional outfit a smart van posh chip box new chipper even a brand spanking new MS880 but when it came to setting up a single lane system on one of the busiest roads in the village all they had was half a dozen cones a road closed sign and a numpty waving his arms about. At times it was darn right dangerous. I must admit though it is one of my pet hates bad traffic management.
  13. It really shouldn't be a hard decision its neither hard nor expensive to do it by the book.
  14. as above all those questions need answering you may need traffic management and it fall into chapter 8.
  15. And mine came from him top bloke.
  16. Very nice truck. Whats with you lot moaning about turning circles of 130's/hiluxs? I can get my 130 anywhere that the 90/110 boys can. Ok might need a shunt but it doesn't put me off and I spend a hell of a lot of time in woodlands squeezing between trees. 130's rock they are so much nicer to tow with and yep 150 will be same turning circle as a 130.
  17. We demoed one, I personally didn't like the gearing of the rodeo but then we were testing it as a tow motor. It was equal with the Mitsi on fuel MPG but they were both poorer than the ranger or land rover! Haven;t tried the latest model though
  18. i agree with you mate to a degree, However all this legislation has stopped a local contractor chucking a 16 year old on a fastrac and trailer with only a tractor licence flying around the county delivering twenty tonne excavators at 40mph with little to no driving experiance and on rebated fuel. This was the scenario a few years back and it cost one 16 year old his life and the contractor also undercutting the more respectable plant firms that deliver by lorry and have been running on white with experianced drivers operating by the book for years. so yeah I'm a little on the fence I'm afraid.
  19. I'm afraid it doesn't anymore! We have a John Deere 6220 at work it's the average farm tractor but because of the nature of our work its on white diesel has a tacho fitted and also on an Operators Licence. Its all down to what it does for who and when and how fast it goes these days. Yes the Traffic Commisioner is the man that decides on O locences however most of the O licence info on the net is on the VOSA site.
  20. we use one of these at work to mow flood banks http://www.aebi.com/fileadmin/media/pdf/Prospekte/Englisch/07_Einachser/CC66_NLW_e_06.03.pdf Absolutely brilliant bits of kit will mow very steep banks with ease and you can angle the handle bars down or up hill to make it more comfortable to use. We have 48" flail mowers on ours. downside is they are not cheap!
  21. i'm afraid to say it won't be on in this house tonight! football free zone.
  22. O Licence legislation is a nightmare! It needs discussing with VOSA on an individual basis but, basically vehicles over 3.5ton gross weight may be required to obtain an operators licence, Especially if the vehicle isn't taxed/classed as Agri. There are many exemption to O licences this web page should be a start http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/generalinfo/frequentlyaskedquestions/operatorlicensingfrequentlyaskedquestions/doineedalorryoperatorlicence.htm
  23. I'm 99% sure and will check tomorrow that the exemption from requiring an Operators licence is within 50KM of base thats 32Miles.
  24. Exactly right! there have been posts on here before about first aid kits, Obviously the army issue stuff isn't readily avliable but never the less its possible to have a better kit than the bog standard hse approved kit for the office. As for scars mine isn't clear enough for a pic two years on but, its in my right eyebrow and |I see it every morning in the mirror, its a good reminder!
  25. Work with my dad?! No never:scared::scared: There would be a Murder it would never work! Luckily he isn't in this line of work.
