  1. Either way you need someone you trust. As for new enquiries while on site, you need to be specific about that kind of thing from the start, if you dont make it clear what you want then you cant expect anything else.
  2. Good to hear! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. I used to run a team as a labour only subbie, find the right subbie and the team will run itself. If you want bona fide subcontractors, get them to price the work then add your cut on top.
  4. Rapeseed from cash and carry, £23 for 25 litres, no vat.
  5. Only when I need cribbing, which isn't often down here in fen country.
  6. Good price that dean. Had mine nearly 4 years, slightly bent but still serviceable.
  7. Did someone say my name?
  8. You forgot a word
  9. Plenty of people in the motor trade willing to take your money for no good reason....... Helped by obtuse and confusing legislation of course.
  10. CDVs up to 2 tonnes max laden weight, so a even a van plated at less than 2 tonnes, if not car derived is in the goods vehicle category. Cant think of any CDVs plated at more than 2 tonnes, but there may be? https://www.gov.uk/speed-limits edit: You are wrong, a CDV is under 2 tonnes by definition of the Road Traffic Act 1984, so all vans except CDV, as I originally said.
  11. Yes, or just buy a 3.5 tonner which will be a better tool for the job.
  12. Equally bad, the first is a premeditated attempt to circumvent licensing laws, the second could be an honest mistake but if you get caught operating without an O licence it will be difficult to get an application approved later.
  13. Clarke industrial do one. Clarke Industrial Air Compressor (OL) - SEV11C - Machine Mart Personally dont think theres much to choose between them in terms of noise.
  14. All except car derived vans, ie Astravan, Combo, Fiesta vans etc.
  15. Down plating - change the plate, no mechanical changes. Down rating - mechanically alter the vehicle to change its weight carrying ability, and then change the plate. As to the reasons why you would do either, thats a bit more complicated!

    Project 6x6

Lovely truck, bet that sounds great too!
  17. There is a difference between downplating and downrating, you can plate the truck at any weight you want within the law and its design/actual weight.
  18. Even proper 3.5 tonne trucks only end up with around 1 tonne payload by the time youve put a arb body on, a 4.6 tonner is going to weigh more before you start, so if you down plate it the payload will be tiny. O licence will cost around £1k in fees.
  19. If you try to run a 3hp motor off a 13 amp plug your going to have problems.....
  20. Yeah, the little machine mart one I have now has been great, but others haven't fared so well, I think it's the luck of the draw.
  21. Don't bother, by the time you down rate it you'll have no payload. You will still need a no licence even you decide not to use the tacho.
  22. Small compressors are unreliable and will generally only last a couple of years. The only really quiet ones are the screw type like Hydrovane, but they are going to set you back about £2k. I would buy a smallish direct drive with a tank and only fire it up when you need it, an hours saw cleaning once a week and it's only going to run for 10-15 minutes of that time.
  23. Yeah, some Gatso can tell the difference between cars and hgvs, I got done several years ago doing 45 in the lorry on a single carriageway a road national speed limit.
  24. I also find the extensive training on skyline setup and operation comes in handy on winching and extraction work too.
  25. Nice to know the high standards of training on the 10 weekers is being maintained. Good work Allan!
