  1. Hey! lets not forget that Apocalypse Now was based on the book Heart of Darkness, that had nothing to do with the Vietnam war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_Darkness
  2. Any idea then?
  3. That's what I was thinking of doing.
  4. I put my money on that Beech coming down, as Paul said massive bracket on the stem, I also removed substantial die back in the crown late last year. The customers more or less scoffed at our concerns before, they seem to have somewhat changed their minds now.
  5. Sweet! snowplow and blower not seen one of those in around 15 years down here, yonder.
  6. Watched this last night, amazing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00h8l42/Radio_2_Live_Elbow_with_the_BBC_Concert_Orchestra/
  7. Thanks Andy, I think it may be prudent to, as you said, take it to my local experts.
  8. I am currently working on a Timberwolf 150DH/DHB, I have been told that the rear shaft screws into the rotor, is it a standard thread, as in right to tighten, left to loosen? Also, any tips on removing the shaft would be welcome.
  9. Dont get an accountant there crooks. Oh dear, that's where my money has gone.
  10. Nice work Reg, don't you just love customers who can't make their minds up! At least, with the tree coming down now, it should pacify the hysterical Aussie/US anti topping contingent.
  11. Twin stem, as you can see, the base of the tree is healthy and peachy, apparently though, it was in a bit of a state at the failure location. Failure Location!!! Get me and my vo-cab. Anyway, I am waiting on some more pictures.
  12. Twas a night before Christmas and the owner of the property thought he heard what he thought was the picnic bench lifting and dragging across the outside terrace with the wind, what had really happened is that a large Beech had snapped about 20 ft up, smashed the top out of a lime, glanced off an Ash and smashed a couple of branches off a Horse Chestnut narrowly missing the garage, putting some dings in the Range Rover and the Mercedes hood and coming to rest on the oil tank. Little weight reduction/reshape of the Chestnut, top the lime, remove any hangers, fun Friday. Should title this post as 'Heading cuts after storm damage' then I would come across as a right smart barsteward.
  13. I think that's what he meant, foot locking, not Single Rope Technique.
  14. Ohhh, splice filth. Jamie, is there any reason for the difference in the positioning of the whipping in your blaze splice compared to the factory splice?
  15. Carrs do them.
  16. I think this is want you want to know. http://www.animatedknots.com/klemheist/index.php
  17. Very catchy song, Emiliano Torrini, Jungle drum. [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-alcHfwHY5A[/ame]
  18. NGK are lame, I use Bosch.
  19. Why are you not a fan of ISC karabiners, sticky gates? The rigging biners are very nice.
  20. A friend of mine trains fireman in chainsaw use I believe.
  21. Yeah that's the one. http://www.yalecordage.com/html/pdf/yale_whiplock.pdf
  22. http://www.splicesbynick.com/kubk
  23. Tested my XTC splice last week, with a pulley on it, hauling large poplars out of a lake, I trust my splicing now. Where do I get whipping instructions, I whipped my splice but I copied by eye one of Wills splices, also I keep looking at splices now, it's becoming an obsession and I keep noticing different whipping cord diameters on the same diameter ropes.
  24. Yeah for a minute there I thought I had been using the wrong instructions.
