  1. Loving Mozzes little reindeer knife, superb, in fact just about all these knives on here are neat
  2. I was going to buck the trend and have a silly username, my missis reckons I've already got one:001_rolleyes:
  3. My idea behind this is that people could self-promote, show their skills and abilities to others, using a little initiative maybe?
  4. Hi are you connected to Clearwater plm, based in Berkhamstead?
  5. I've used climbers as many have, and I've asked them of their experience and abilities, and pretty much it's pot luck whether or not they can do as they say they can. Now if I'd asked for a vid of their rigging skills I'd be able to judge a lot more quickly, and have more confidence. Admittedly, my skill in picking out some of the nations finest climbers to work with has not been affected by lack of videos, but one day I may get it wrong.
  6. For pitys sake, Im not saying, nor have at any point said do away with classic CVs and stuff, just if youre wanting work desperately, why not use every tool at your disposal to improve your chances. If this means sticking a vid up here to showcase your skills then this is the perfect platform, for job seeker and potential employer. Let your abilities do the talking, sell yourself, you are a product.
  7. I wear glasses and the only thing that bugs me is the sweat running down the lens, or fogging up on a cold day. Apart from that it's not so bad, a fact of getting older I suppose.
  8. My thought is that it's not to replace the traditional means of applications, but with a forum such as this it certainly seems to make sense to me to use it to your full advantage. What makes you stand above the others applying for a job? With a video compilation on here, you may certainly make yourself satnd out a little more. Only my thought, others may differ.W
  9. Potentially a whole unthought of Market there for someone.
  10. I reckon they bet each other on who dares hit you on the head with the mike you were that boring they were just trying to lighten the mood a little, after all, hours and hours listening to you blather on about this little fungi over here and this little one under there is a bit much
  11. You, sir, sound just the ticket
  12. It's struck me on reading thread after thread on here that this has to be the best platform to sell yourself to prospective employers. So you can talk the talk, but can you really walk the walk? why not add a short vid with your thread showing us what you can do, how you roll? stand out from the crowd, be noticed, make me want to take you on. I personally don't give a jot for CVs (they tend to be a little liberal with the truth anyway) and I don't care if Bert says your the dogs danglies, show us that you can do the job!! The forum is there, the opportunity is there, just do it.
  13. What makes you more employable than many other climbers? Why should I use you over 1001 others currently floating around for work?
  14. Well I've gone from umpteen hours a day to just umpteen hours a week now, far more relaxed and comfortable. When I was in hospital some of the staff were moaning about doing 3x 14 hr shifts a week. I said to one of them try being self employed and doing that all week and half of Sunday too. Probably why I ended up there I suppose. Fact is though, I still think and plan tree jobs every where I go, look at jobs thinking of ways to do them, even when in hospital I was looking out of the windows observing dead wooding jobs and thinking of how to do a tricky access job. Sad isn't it?
  15. :congrats: quite right, it's easy to sit here relaxed saying I would have done this or that, while in the warm and sipping lattes, but when the heat is on and things start going to hell in a handcart, it takes balls to stick it. Big ones. and the other problem is as the lead climber as well, youre frustrated that it's going badly, that you've been let down, but you've still got to keep your head and do the job the best way you can. Yeah, chill out for the weekend, reflect over a few beers, not so bad really.
  16. Parts manual listed amongst this link Ford Tractor Manual - Service Repair Workshop Owners - PDF I can't open it on the iPad but it may help you
  17. I have a 9tonne Cat onsite at the moment, I insisted on minimal ground damage, so they brought sheets of ply and rolls of carpet to run on. Not a Mark to date anythings do-able, just think slightly outside the box.
  18. Sorry to hear this, close to home as my son knows Richard well
  19. James, firstly well done for sticking at it, and saving face. It's not easy to make your Mark in this business is it? Everybody's out there doing the easy trees, few take on the tougher jobs, like this one. The reason, because they can't see how to make the money. It's one thing cutting trees, and being good at it, it's a whole different ball game running a business, day in day out, and being successful. I would ask myself why 5 other companies walked away from it, its only a tree, but maybe they didn't like the clients attitude, maybe the client is known as a poor payer, maybe they know something you don't. I think I would have opted for the rigging option over the crane on this, removing one of the factors that would work against you, and did. easy in hindsight though eh? Thanks for posting anyway, many would not post when things don't go quite right for fear of looking less than professional in front of their peers, but as you say you and others can learn from this.
  20. It is a saturated Market, but you just have to float above the dross. If you can make a business work during a recession, you can make it work any time You Dont need a chipper now, but you will want one
  21. I can't help thinking there was a reason behind the other 5 not wishing to quote, I doubt it was a lack of ability.
  22. It's not just Mr Bullmans finger on the button, we all have the power to terminate
  23. You are missing the biggest something ever Adam
  24. I voted regular, I'm guessing fitted would be fine for those with a defined physique of Adonis, I haven't... Loose may be too loose, or just loose enough, hard to tell really. regular then.
