  1. Simple answer Lee is yes. If they got off their backsides, and made the effort to make themselves employable they could find work. But they think they are too good to stack shelves, clean toilets, clean the wards in our hospitals and so on, whic the Poles and East Europeans do so willingly. But then why would anyone wish to employ anyone who simply does not wish to work?
  2. I hear what you're saying Difflock, but I firmly believe that a non climbing person must discuss with his climbers the safest and yet most productive way forward. I would, and do, and don't climb. Be a team. So.
  3. I remember to this day, a tree company around here roaring up the main road past my dads in a bright orange Mog with 2 massive St Georges flags flying from the mirror mounts, real eye-catcher.
  4. Is it one of the cheap chinese saws off flea bay? Nasty piece of work.
  5. Axe the straight stuff, maul for the rest. Agree that the cost is almost immaterial though I wouldn't buy the fibreglass handle ones of either!
  6. Youre alive to feel deflated, that's the main thing.
  7. It's an opinion, that's all, this is a discussion forum, if we all shared the same opinion, there would be no discussion.
  8. Well, as a non climber he should listen to his climbers. Would it have made a better impression if it had gone wrong and broken the lines? Or worse? Work together, listen to his opinion by all means, consult with the other climber and make a decision as a team not 3 individuals. Had it gone all pear shaped, I suspect he would have said that he told you not to do it.
  9. I haven't mentioned the fact that we have a very good fungi app available for th iPod iPhones iPad and Android phones, only £2.99 too
  10. Gut instinct tells you a lot, training teaches you more, you make an assessment based on your combined experience. If the job had gone wrong, it is you that would have at least been at fault, not the foreman. You make the call.
  11. Ok... Be different, look different, offer something different. Stick in people's minds (for the right reasons). Get an old butchers/bakers bike, with the small wheel at the front and a big basket and used to have a sign in the middle of the frame, sign write it, cycle around leafleting your area. get a Mog, paint it pink, sign write it and drive to Tescos and back. Have a vehicle that shouts "I do trees" a big County with a mammoth great winch and spades on, anything that sticks out, and sticks in people's minds. think outside the box a little.
  12. That is actually true, Tony. I have no hang ups about admitting my lack of knowledge in a particular field, as I don't know everything. So a fungi guide is useful to me, and to others who are like me...willing to look up information and learn.
  13. I cannot see why it wouldn't work on an iPod as well, I've only downloaded the iPhone version on my iPad without probes
  14. Maybe not, but it was a mere suggestion that the member may wish to look at either the guide on the forum or purchase the app if they were interested. I could just as easily recommended looking in a book or ringing Mr Croft in person to pop around and take a look
  15. Oh, I missed Daves post somehow
  16. I'm not going to say anything about this fungi, but have you looked through the forums fungi guide? And if you are interested in fungi, we have an app that is compatible for iPhones, iPads and android based phones available for £2.99. Very user friendly app.
  17. No. Though I would bear in mind that if it took you say 5 years to become a good climber you would be 40, but maturity will be on your side, along with a lifetime of work experience. So you should be fine
  18. as Charlie says, you cannot get your felling licence through NE, this has to come from the Forestry Commission...every time! Felling without a licence will bring down a whole heap of trouble around you. You may also have to consult with Natural England for other advice, and maybe your Local Authority as well.
  19. Today, exercise exercise and more exercise, tomorrow, check up on the tennis court installation guys to see how theyre doing, then sit and do some "paperwork" in the clients kitchen with a latte:thumbup:
  20. Top buns mate go down well with a nice cuppa
  21. Isn't Predator nr you Rob?
  22. It's not a big chicken, it's a very small Landy Nice one:thumbup:
  23. Liking the "true" Hamadryad transmogrifying into Tony Croft
  24. I can understand your level of mistrust Cerne, being sent to look for something that didn't exist would probably change anyone's viewpoint, but you should seriously not try and read too deeply into a lot of this "information" on the net, it is set to play on the fears of the weak and easily led
  25. Cerne... Mate... If it a were a corrupt system, you couldn't vote out the corrupt MPs, it would already be rigged....which it isn't. We do have "choice", we can choose where and when we travel without IDs, we can move around freely, choose a career we want, change jobs as and when we wish, marry or co habit with another of our choice, and even same sex if that is your way. We are FREE, or as free as we need to be. I think you would have to go a very long way to find a freer society in which to live.
