  1. I think that's a reasonable excuse given the distance Rob
  2. Of course the "Old Boys Club" exists, I've seen it myself. The secret is to use it to your advantage, not fight it. I'm not AAAC, but I get work for LA in woodland management, in fact I don't think they even consider AAACs for woodland work around here, and why would they? But the breakfast clubs exist to connect business with LA personnel, pub lunches exist between LA and businessmen, then there are the connections with Masonic Lodges, Church groups and so on, it is a fact of life. Is it a bad thing? By association with the right people, you get work, I don't mean you have to butter them up, but make the effort to know them. This is first and foremost a business we are supposed to be in, like it or lump it, business ticks in a certain way.
  3. Is this thread an indicator of how things are this year? Usually a far bigger build up for this show!!
  4. Hello Michael and welcome to the forum, hope you find something soon.
  5. Haha love it, nice retort there Martyn
  6. Cheap heat, get two warms for your money, cutting and splitting, then burning, plus cheaper exercise than going to the local gym. Can't beat it
  7. Nice one, mates just picked up a 10ton winch from the military sales for our MJ, just got to be fitted up now. Top pics
  8. Sorry but it's cold hard fact based on employees I have seen at various companies I have subbed to. Tbh, I like the idea of each person owning their own saws. My son is a mechanic, his start up tool kit cost about £600, then he adds to it as and when, so what's the difference?
  9. Don't see why any company would want to supply saws for their crews to use. I've seen very few employees actually take care of company kit, perhaps if they owned it they'd take better care.
  10. Don't forget Button, your missis has her fears and concerns too, its not just about the patient
  11. Damn Button, I thought you were on the mend!! Keep your chin up, like you say they just have to find e right treatment and you'll be away in no time. All the best, I'm about most of the time due to my health issues so if you need a chat. I can understand the fear of loss of sight, mine was failing fast with the kidney failure, very scary.
  12. Best of luck, just don't forget your "roots" here when you're a high flying businessman! all the best, Andy
  13. Having worked a winter in a wood that was under a minimum of 4inches of water, deeper in many places, I soon went off traditional leather boots, Goretex or not, they let the water in and yu are cold and wet, and miserable. Blow that, chainsaw wellies have their place, and I always keep some by for the exceptional wet jobs, and they are a fraction of the price of fancy Goretex chainsaw boots.
  14. Contact Firecrest Forestry, just outside the town, they used to take a lot of chip when I was subbing out that way. http://www.firecrest.org.uk/firecrest.html
  15. See that's the trouble with youngsters, always think they know better I didn't fight through 2 World Wars just for you young uns to get all gobby, I'd still give you a hiding!
  16. I think the first time the problem was probably the passenger!
  17. Thanks for bringing it up Dean, too true, a sad loss.
  18. Wouldn't it be really useful if there was a forum that incorporated a Fungi guide too? Instead of us just having to guess all the time now if only we could find someone who knows enough about photography and fungi to compile such a useful tool.
  19. I have waipouas for everyday saw use, lovely and comfy, wearing well too. Only type A though, so not for the climber who needs more protection.
  20. 40crunches and 2 proper press ups, doubled yesterday's achievement.
  21. I agree with Rupes statement. It does no favours to Molly coddle anyone, to pretend it's all fine and dandy, that the grass is always greener. It isn't, it's tough and getting tougher. The country is in financial trouble, this has percolated down to us all. I wish all the new folk out there all the best for their future, and will always be as helpful and honest as possible in my replies, we do need new blood to come in, good healthy new blood to help us older guys to retirement.
  22. Thats exactly why I've left it til well past the end of the 3month post-op period, press ups and sit up/crunches are listed as the next thing after walking and cycling, building up to some form of weight training if I'm lucky (though I'm pushing a bit of work on the kettle bells tbh) I wasmaiming for around the 6 press up marker though, not 1.
  23. Going to check with my doc that this is a wise time to start this I think, I think it's ok, but I daren't mess up.
  24. Change of plan started today managed an awesome grand total of 1 oh well something to work on I suppose
