    No sense of humour being quoted here TM, it's the law of survival. Ben if you do that kind of work out of preference, as opposed to neccesity, with the knowledge of an arborist then you have a status much lower than a gypo! All said and done, too much has been said before and i'm not interested in revisiting it again so i'm bowing out of this thread

    Dean,I could walk you around edgerton and point at at least 5 mature trees i've hacked contracting. It's the same old story, go under or cut the tree. choice is a fine thing

    I hate butchering trees, but as a contract climber it's often point and shoot. It can ruin my day, but think of the money and when working for yourself maintain the standards. Pay the bills, put food on the table and DO THE BEST YOU CAN

    I'm in agreement with the incremental removal of the conopy. I'd also look at replanting some decent sized replacements to pollard and try and cover the eventuality of some of the worst dieing

    Storm damage is always fun!!! Did you bother lashing the remaining ones to the other trees or are they hung up well enough

    Nice Carl. Well i've got some catching up to do on this thread. First ones are from Harewood house, near Leeds. I was helping Craig (Judge) to do some nice delicate work on some spectacular trees. Great bunch of lads to work with, I enjoyed it for sure

    basic buissness- if you have a grinder then sell it's use, if not then try and avoid it. I do loose a percentage of jobs on the price of grinding, annoying but thats life

    I'll also disagree on the blade being the cause of the bearings collapsing. I've had to replace mine 3 times now (it has done 1800plus hours though) and i've always maintained sharp blades. It's just a design fault that has never been rectified imo. Any chipper at 6in capacity and weighing 750kg or less with a deisel engine has to compromise somewhere. Each manufacturer just seems to choose a different place to save the weight.

    Never had an issue with the velcro. I prefer it as the straps are wider and don't cut in the same as the leather ones
