    Thanks. The wood itself is going to be pretty dark anyway so I don’t think the actual colour the oil leaves is going to be an issue, more the finish it leaves.

    Been researching this online and there’s a million different ways. Looking for advice on the best process for finishing elm, ie what sandpaper’s to use, and the best oil, wax or lacquer to apply. This will be for a console table and a coffee table so will be reasonably well used. thanks

    Last time I had to make Simona a 2 level cake stand I stick the dowels into one piece, stuck a few dabs of paint on the other end of the dowel that placed it onto the other piece of wood to mark where I needed to drill the holes. very crude, but worked for me and meant I didn’t have to get a measuring tape out 😀

    I have a drill and a circular saw I just purchase today. The dowel option was what I was hoping would be strong enough. I can just about manage that. Recommendations on glue?

    I think it’s right, it’s just the fact that it’s not loaded correctly that it’s acting that way. Once on your harness it will behave completely different

    I’m not much of a craftsman, but screwing some ready made legs onto a plank of wood that I have sanded down on the cheap, that I can manage. I agree some of them don’t look great though
