  1. Can't remember who I got my last lot from, plenty selling them online though. One bit of advice, buy oval ones...they seem to go on the best
  2. Just be honest about your experience and show a keenness, nothing worse than people who exaggerate their experience and turn out to be crap. can offer nothing with regards mancoed though sorry
  3. Pretty hard to tell from that image. Can you get a close up of the leaves and trunk?
  4. Personally I don’t think this is a bad call. id take that over yew anyway. Ready to be proven wrong though
  5. Climbed plenty I didn’t feel comfortable climbing without incident. probably the worst thing I did was up a dead horse chestnut. I was keen to get the top out ASAP to give a false sense of security maybe. The tip landed on a substantial lower limb and snapped it off. That limb was going over some by lines. Gave them quite a twang but luckily didn’t break them. They were the thick main lines so that wouldn’t have been a cheap fix
  6. Doesn't look anything like Yew to me....to me, to you
  7. be cool if the images were all taken from the same angle, you could then apply a grid to the image to see if the lean has increased
  8. Yep that’s the design. I have the same one
  9. I am indeed. I looked at the specially made ones but knowing that I would likely lose them I didn't bother. I buy them by the box full on ebay and they last for ever. Look for 37snr rating, you won't get better ear protection IMO. This is the most comfortable shape i've used https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-Pairs-of-Howard-Leight-by-Honeywell-MAX-Soft-Foam-Ear-Plugs-SNR37dB/182058016588?epid=2254482626&hash=item2a6380df4c%3Ag%3AztMAAOSwB4NWwOQZ&_sacat=0&_nkw=earplugs+37snr&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xearplugs+37snr.TRS0 Also make sure you put them in properly by stretching your ear lobe out. Theres a technique for this and it makes all the difference. Honestly, every time I try and teach someone this they look at me thinking im trying to prank them.
  10. I can see that conveyor being real handy for rakings, but perhaps encourage people to chuck in a lot more stuff than they perhaps shouldn't?
  11. To my knowledge I’ve only had one tree in 22 years not come back from a pollard, so yes it can happen. in terms of trees not getting to that height overnight, maybe an exception for willows?
  12. They are pretty resilient and i've pollarded them all times of year in the past with no issues. Probable best to wait till the leaves are off if you want to be on the safe side though.
  13. Not having a lot of luck with this, yet another one can't make the dates. Next one out of the hat.... @joshuatree
  14. @Graham its your lucky day. Another of the winners can't make it and you're the next one out of the hat
  15. That would be me, its not live yet though. Will pm you with access details
  16. Unfortunately one of the original winners is unable to attend the show due to commitments so I have drawn a new name Congratulations @BrendanTreeFeller
  17. APF 2018 is by far the largest arboricultural event of the year. Taking place on the 20/21/22 September at Ragley Estate, Warwickshire, around 320 exhibitors and 23 000 visitors are expected over the three days of the show. Nearly half of all visitors are professionals working in the arboricultural and tree care industry. It is the place to come to check out the latest machinery and equipment in action and see if it can do what the glossy brochures claim and compare every major manufacturer’s equipment working side by side under realistic conditions. Around £50 million of equipment and 2.5 miles of working machinery will be on show. Husqvarna and Stihl will be demonstrating their latest models and developments in computerised and cordless technology. Their technicians will be on hand to help and advise on any technical issues you might have. In the Forest Worker Zone experts will advise on general chain sharpening and chainsaw maintenance. FISA and Lantra will be running daily demonstrations of the latest tree felling and climbing techniques and offering help with any safety and training issues, whilst NPTC can give advice on certification matters. The Arboricultural Association and the Consulting Arborist Society will offer help with all professional matters. There are many training companies exhibiting where you can get advice on a wide range of training courses. When it comes to new kit you really will be spoiled for choice with all the big name suppliers exhibiting whether you are in the market for some new trousers, the latest climbing kit, a new rope or a new saw. There will be many new, innovative products on show. With all the competition in one place you can be assured of very keen prices and secure a great deal. When you want a break from shopping how about trying your hand at poleclimbing? Husqvarna are once again sponsoring the World 25m poleclimbing Championships with over £4000 in cash prizes and Husqvarna equipment to be won. There are both Expert and Tree Surgeon classes depending on your level of experience. Details and entry forms can be found on the Competitions and Events page of the website. Stihl Timbersports returns to the APF this year with its six disciplines including the mighty Hot Saw with its chain speed of 240 Km per hour, that’s 144 miles an hour! If you have ever fancied doing more than just cutting branches with your saw then take some time to watch Europe’s top 25 chainsaw carvers in action in the A W Jenkinson and Tilhill Forestry European Championships With UK tree health such a major issue at the moment there will be a series of seminars led by the Forestry Commission with the latest news, research and bio security measures on subjects including, Xyella fastidiosa, OPM and Ash dieback. Tickets will be available on the gate at £22 but you can save a lot of money by buying online in advance. A one day ticket is £18, a two day ticket £30 and if you buy 10 or more the price is just £16 each. There really is too much to see and do in one day so why not stay over? There is an on-site campsite just 400m from the show at just £15 per person per night.
