U.K. Should adapt to the Swedish way of dealing with cans bottles. Add on a sum to it and get money back when returned. I used to pick up this beside the roads to get money. And after outdoor concerts.

We use to do that years ago . I am ashamed to say as nippers we used to go to the village shop . pop round the back , pick up a couple of empty soda syphons and take them back in the front for the money ! I was only about 10 years old .

Used to do it with bottles.I remember in the 60's collecting the Corona bottles & taking 'em back for (I think) threepence.

In the early nineties the council would pay a penny a can (aluminium) then it went to weight now they pay nothing.

Didn't know you used to have that system.. I walked from one town to another with bin bags.. my arms was so sore. Picking up beside the road.

Yes . There was money back on returned bottles Like Pinks lemonade and Tizer , soda syphons and other stuff . All died off with the advent of the " cheap throw away " culture .

It worked .

It worked when there was local depots about, the 'pop man' would drop off full bottles and take back the empties to the depot.

I was told that it's cheaper to produce new bottles than recycle nowadays.......

I have no idea if that last bit is true.

Anyway I wish 'they' would encourage fly tipping around here, it'd be one less thing for me to worry about.

Hope you charged for the service. :001_smile:

You know, I never did, and to be fair, I did do it at my convenience, it was about 6 AM so I would have felt bad about waking them, and I was on my way to another job, and I didn't fancy explaining the ton of rubble that may not have been part of the original fly tip, and I didn't want to get into a debate about why the 2 family cars were now blocked in, what with it being a school run day and all.
