Personally I think honesty in a relationship is important, if you think you are right you should say so.

 

I'm always honest with my wife, she does not always thank me for my honesty, but 4 children and 26 years later we are still together.

She may have felt like it wouldn't be too boring if you went together, but you left her in the lurch, standing alone at the buffet table with a glass of cheap wine, looking wistfully at all the other happy couples. I chose work over going out most the time but that's farming so I don't usually have a choice.

I don't think the wedding is the important thing but that you were asked so unless you tried to get out of work and couldn't I would be really nice to her but what do I know. :-)
