m25 bridge crash!!!

Very close to me- The bridge has been undergoing work for some years- and is wrapped in blue mesh, visible on the pics. Although the digger is being blamed, its not overheight, and there have been reports of the low loader swerving suddenly onto the shoulder to avoid something large in the slow lane. My money is on a chunk of bridge dropping off, low loader swerves and either bridge collapses, or right over on the shoulder, the digger is too high. I have been driving under this bridge for years, and its always looked bad- its been wrapped in construction fabric more over the last 20 years than not. If that fell down without even moving the digger- it was gonna fall anyway IMO.

That's an interesting take on it! It's gonna get messy and lawyers are gonna get rich...

The Digger was being moved to the works at junction, hence why driving on hard shoulder. The Digger was over height due to driver loading error and contacted the bridge. The bridge was not under any current works but had been fitted with a parapet upgrade. (Blue netting and barriers). Due to the poor design of the bridge it had no lateral strength to withstand a side impact.

This is so easily done, I have torn pipes off our excavators on bridges and clumped a few with the grab on the timber trailer. I would not be surprised if that driver had been down that road with the same machines on board a few times with no incident and they were just loaded wrongly on this occasion. No loss of life thank god and there will be no wrangling as its pretty much a clear cut case of driver error. One big insurance claim which we all pay for indirectly:thumbdown:

Yes i bet its one of those cheap chinese bridges you can buy off ebay :001_tt2::lol:

I blame Brexit:biggrin:

Seriously though, if the load was over-height, how did it pass under every other bridge on the motorway? Or had the wagon just joined the motorway and this is/was the first bridge:confused1:

The foot bridge was slightly lower than others but the Lorry only came on at the previous junction

the bit over the hard shoulders always looked lower than the main carriage way bit

maybe the lorry would have cleared it if he was on the main carriage

the one on the A21 kept getting spanked until they took it down and changed it
