I ended up getting the Florabest chain sharpener after reading your feedback.

I bolted it onto part of a small pallet I had lying around so that it`s portable & I can use it beside any power socket as I don`t have room in my garage to set it up as it`s full of logs.

Practised on an old chain & it works really well :001_smile:

Hey, sorry to revive the thread but do electric chainsaw sharpeners work on semi chisel chains? Trying to understand the physics of a disc getting into the same position as a round file :)

Yeah they do. The cut profile is not quite as refined as what a file makes, but it seems to work fine.

Yes, the disk grinding edge is round and replaces the round file. You typically get two disk thicknesses for the smaller 3/8 LP and 0.325 chains and a thicker one for 3/8 high profile. It is worth getting one with a speed control or factor one in so the grinder doesn't heat the teeth too much otherwise it makes file sharpening impossible.

Many don't like them but they are good for well mullered chains!

They don't seem a lot of money, I'm not the best at file sharpened unless I'm on my bench, lately i'm making a mess of my chains when sharpened out stone/metal hits on the job. I get them good enough to go again but not so good as I can get in the workshop. Electric jobber would mainly be for getting said messed up chains back on track! :)

Cheap grinders are sh*t.
Plastic, wobbly useless crap.
My mate bought one £30 it was useless.
He then spent £90 on a better one.
Still useless plastic wobbly sh*t.
After seeing my mates frustration I bought a stihl HOS grinder.
It works really well.
You can always buy sh*t cheap, doesn't mean it'll work though.
Try grinding depth gauges at 0.65 mm with a machine
that wobbles 3mm each way.
☹️
