AA Teccie, is that armchair arborist Teccie Paul ? :D I'm an armchair firewood collector and I'd use the ladder. I would cut it in small enough pieces to lower to the ground on a rope to save damage.

Indeed'tis, albeit not such a comfy one today at HQ.

Okay, I know I'm essentially "out of the game" here, so to speak, but I really would urge caution at any proposal to rig off that stem...particularly if I was attached at the same time.

Cheers..

Paul

I would give the customer 2 options:

Option 1 - winch assisted fell, cheaper but more ground compaction damage etc

Option 2 - some sort of remote access, mewp or hiab. More expensive but no damage.

In my opinion it's not worth taking an personal risk for the money you will make out of that job. Let the customer decide what suits their budget.

How much do they want to spend?

Cheapest way is fell it on the lawn, a few bumps can easily be fixed with a garden fork.

I don't think they want to spend anything, but because it's a bit of a safety thing they kind of have to - they didn't ask for a quote, as I do regular work for

them. I'm not expecting it to be a lot, it's not a big tree, just tricky for me to judge as I haven't been up any that far gone.

The two things with felling are avoiding damaging the drain, and controlling the fell, at least to within a say 120 degree radius, guess a tiny gob on the good bit and maybe a three inch wide hinge if there's and good wood to make the hinge?
