In the modern ere, what would happen if everyone was allowed to vote on the major issues which affect us?

 

What I mean is, why can't there be numerous referendums each year, from how the budget is spent, to the number of police on duty, to the pension of public sector workers, to the amount of foreign aid. If you can vote for strictly come dancing, then surely, with a unique number such as your NI number, you could adapt this type of voting system to suit.

 

Would this be the most democratic system in the world, or a recipe for disaster?
