Making the news today....

I must admit that I was slightly annoyed that the thread the other day about the Nice attacks was deleted. I was simply trying to point out the entirely destructive nature of near enough all religion, and bingo bango, thread gone!

I didn't realize that thread had been taken down.. why..

Spot on....

It's bollocks to suggest we can't offend each other... And even more bollocks to suggest that a few chosen mods on an Internet forum can tell us how to behave(but of course they can and will) but they will and it's a bit silly in this day and age really.

Er, nobody has said that you can't offend each other.

Sorry if a few of you think the mods (me in particular this time) are over-stepping the mark.

Let me explain: a vast majority of threads and discussions are not moderated in any way, and the mods on AT rarely ban anyone. However, some threads (which tend to be those about politics and/or religion) do lead to a bit of conflict - which is fine until people just resort to insulting each other instead of having a discussion.

When that happens, we moderators have a few options:

  1. Let it run and see what happens
  2. Send a PM to the individual posters to ask that they cool down
  3. Issue an infraction/warning
  4. Close the thread
  5. Ban someone
  6. ....or just post a reminder that we should be civil to each other

On this occasion as the thread is only on page 2 but people are already insulting each other, I thought that a reminder that insults are not acceptable was the way to go.

If anyone is not sure of the forum guidelines, check them out here: Arbtalk.co.uk - Forum Rules

So, contrary to what a few of you think - it's not bollocks that mods try and keep some peace on here. If you're looking for somewhere on the internet to wave your handbags around, go somewhere else

Give me a break!

Just use your common sense and avoid using foul language :thumbup1:

Paul, i'm not having a go at you - I'm just trying to point out that what is deemed foul or offensive by one isn't to another & what's acceptable to one isn't to another person. That's life! & rightly or wrongly I swear like a trooper so it'd be nice to have some clarity of exactly what isn't allowed.
