I'd imagine there are many "better together" voters who may have been angered by brexit, to the point perhaps that they wished they'd voted for independence, but emotions ran very high during indyref, it's too soon for these people to just change their mind. Even if they wanted to, their pride wouldn't allow them.

If they voted for independence they'd be out of Europe they were told. So, then they asked "would you like to leave Europe?"

"No" they said!

And here we are!

So one person discredited it…mmmm

The person that criticised the report was a Professor Emeritus of Statistics.... The report has been criticised by a lot of people...

In 2003 Professor Dustmann produced a report that said East European migration would be 5,000 to 13,000 people a year. How wrong were his forecasts?

Yet the BBC (and people like you) take everything he says as if he was the messiah. FFS, even taking the report at face value shows that overall EEA and non EEA migrants are a drain to the taxpayer.

At this moment Goebbels and Hitler are high fiving each other laughing at how people like you are being fooled by propaganda.

Well that was when they were threatened back then, that being independent would mean not being in the EU..

Seems circumstances have changed somewhat....

England voted because they didn't like the idea of bureaucrats in Brussels running their affairs, well, Scotland don't like bureaucrats from London running theirs...

Once Scotland gets its independence, perhaps a movement might evolve in the North of England..

Independence for the North.... has a certain ring to it doesn't it?...

Perhaps London might want to become a City State, keep all their own money!!...

See, when you want to go wrecking things by getting a divorce, pretty soon every one wants a new wife/husband.....

Who was "threatening" what? Specifically??

I don't recall it being a threat (I presume you mean from the Pro-union camp), but rather, in equal measure, an observation from the Pro-union camp that Scottish EU membership was not guaranteed on independence - a fair observation. Compared to an unfounded assumption, on the part of the Anti-union camp, that EU membership would naturally follow....

Since there was no definitive statement of intent from the EU regarding the potential for an independent Scottish ascension to the EU, I can't reconcile your position that it was a "threat" intended to influence voting any more, or less, than the indy camp's claim was an unfounded and unrealistic ass-umption.

To expand your logic about first Scottish, then the N of England gaining independence.... Would it not follow then, that, for example, Edinburg and the Islands might seek independence from Scotland based upon the overwhelming vote count in the indyref?

I wonder how Ms Cranky would react to that proposition... After all, all the arguments she has so vehemently advanced could just as easily be used against her.....:lol::lol:

Yes I'm sure they could be used against her, as I'm sure they would...

But still, whats left of Scotland will still have the advantage of not having English MP's tellin them what to do...

They will still throw our nukes out of their country...

They'll still have to have a hard border with England, checkpoint charlie, razor wire fence with all the trimmings..

How do you imagine the Queen is gonna feel when half her Kingdom slips away just before she dies?....

All because most English voters are as thick as two short planks....

A point that is often overlooked in the thoughts of an independent Scotland joining the EU is the fact that all the EU member states have to agree.

As Scotland would seek entry to the EU, one country in particular is likely to veto their request: Spain.

Spain has it's very own separate country within it's borders that has been very very keen for independence for many years. If Spain allowed Scotland into the EU, the Basques would seek independence and EU entry too. The Spaniards will never allow this to happen.

Not so fast Mr Johnsonmbe.

Perhaps Scotland might be quite taken by the idea of being a small country on the edges of Europe doin its own thing..

They could create trade deals with countries all around the world just like the English will soon be able to do..

Lower corporation tax just like the English..

Whenever we lowered tax, they could easily compete by lowering theirs that little bit more..

Life would be so much easier and simpler if left to do things on their own...

I'll see yr "not so fast", and raise you a "hold on a minute!"

A small country on the edge of Europe is quite different to a small country in the EU!
